Wasn't sure quite what to expect prior to reading this, but I was pleasantly surprised. Ruth certainly had her year of miracles.I so much enjoyed reading about all the diverse colourful characters so cleverly portrayed by the author, Frances Garrood. I shook my head in mirth as I read about the apparition of the Virgin Mary in the hen house!!However, the greatest miracle for Ruth was when just after having given birth to a son, the baby's father who it was thought had almost disappeared from the face of the earth, miraculously appeared on the scene. Ruth's long lost boyfriend!! He was completely oblivious to the fact he had just become a father.
This is not my usual preferred genre of reading material, but something attracted me and I found it to be a pleasurable, light, feel-good escape. I wouldn’t have considered this a ‘women’s romance’ but others have labeled it so. I am shopping for the next Frances Garrood.novel to read now. Very well written, too.
I loved the characters in this book. They are all quirky and their antics are entertaining. This includes the animals. An undemanding read that moves away from the usual navel gazing angst and provides a refreshing recount.
