Wow. Had afternoon plans, lost them for this book. Did not leave the couch from cover to cover.
Such a lovely, intense, sometimes cheeky, heart-warming read!
Certainly a rom-com, but sometimes not so heavy on the com. It's gorgeous to watch the love of Tiffy and Leon unfold and watch them grow and, even though we have to endure some of their pain along way, it's gratifying to see the most happy of endings.
Also a whole stack of wonderful supporting characters, I find myself forlorn at saying goodbye to such a supportive bunch, I'd love to read their stories as well.
Thank you to the Author for an afternoon VERY well spent! :)
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to read “flatshare” by Beth O’Leary. It was 5 star reviews everywhere I looked but when I read the sample I was off put by the voice of Leon, and now that I’ve finished the book I’m totally not sure about the tag ‘romantic comedy’ either, I didn’t find it funny it had some funny moments but the feel of the story is semi serious, by which I mean there are serious issues but the darkness is not played up. I hope that makes sense. Leon initially came across to me as disjointed, his voice/note writing missed all the little words a/the/it etc and I wondered if the author was doing an accent without an accent, you know when someone is learning a new language and doesn’t quite string the words together correctly, or maybe he’s super efficient or busy and can’t be bothered with the meaningless little words. It was 4 or 5 chapters before I got to the meat in the sandwich so to speak and wanted to keep reading, I was in hook, line, and sinker. My initial impression of Tiffy was this girls a bit flaky, nice enough but not much back bone I guess the ditzy girl vibe is because of her love of vintage but as the characters and their life stories unfold it all makes sense and you can’t help but love both the H and h as well as a lot of the secondary characters. Absolutely fabulous story, characters and writing, totally recommend this book.
This book has achieved a blend of being an entertaining holiday read and covering the issue of how some people can unconsciously become prisoners of emotional abuse in relationships. We learn that it does not just affect the partners themselves but also family members and friends.
I really enjoyed this book. It took a little while to get into it, but I thought the concept was really cute. There were two main subplots relating to people close to Leon and Tiffy that added depth to the characters and made me really empathise with both of them. Probably the only odd thing about the book is the way the author presents characters talking. Rather than using speech marks, it looks like this: (EXAMPLE) Tiffy: Hi Leon: Hi If you can look past this, you'll have a really enjoyable book.
What a fantastic read. This is my bookclub book for this month and I have enjoyed it immensely. All the characters are interesting, even horrible Justin! It was lighthearted most of the time and a very beleivable storyline. I loved Tiffy even though at first she seemed a bit slow to realise Justin was very bad for her.
Was a great read! I really liked how the characters interacted before actually meeting, and how good they were for each other. The underlying issues, which I won’t give away, were handled well by the author. Borrowed this from the library and had to add it to my collection ❤️ 4.5 stars
This light hearted rom com is a quick fun read. Tiffy is a quirky girl who is balanced beautifully her earnest and somewhat more serious flat mate Leon. Not wanting to give any spoilers, I’ll just say if you enjoy this genre then it’s worth reading.
