Great earphones, comfortable but the battery life is ridiculously short!
30 December 2018
I love the freedom of wireless earphones. I have a pair of Blueant Pump Mini2 Wireless earphones. They’re great but the ear pieces aren’t that comfortable and I kept seeing truly wireless earphones with just the buds and figured I’d give that a go. I did my research and be honest ignored the couple of reviews I saw at the time saying the battery life on these Sony sports earphones was short. I figured people were expecting too much. I was wrong. First the bad, then the good. The bad is that the battery life is atrocious. I got less than 20 minutes out of each charge. I followed the instructions, I let them charge overnight, I turned off all the special settings that could be draining the battery. I was very unhappy because these earphones have SO much potential.
The good: they fit perfectly in my ear. I actually forgot I was wearing them. Apart from the initial insertion into my ear I didn’t have to adjust them and they never felt like they were falling out. They were also just comfortable - no pain, nothing. Well done Sony on such a brilliant design!
The sound quality is awesome. Clear, loud and crisp. Plus the bass is excellent. Love it - probably the best sound quality I’ve had in earphones.
The Bluetooth pairing is incredibly simple. That’s a real bonus.
The noise cancelling is great! Especially given their size they really do a good job. I wouldn’t say as good as the Bose over ear noise cancelling headphones but nonetheless these little earphones pack a punch and do a great job.
The app is also really helpful. My phone is glued to my hand, so it’s likely I’ll have it with me whatever I’m doing and can easily adjust the sound and equiliser with the app. The app (as well as an icon on my iPhone next to the phone battery) tell me the remaining battery life. Really helpful. There are also two small buttons on the side of the earphones where you can change to Ambient Sound, Noise Cancelling or off.
If I could have these earphones with a great battery life (my Blueant semi-wireless ones have about 4-6 hours) then these earphones would be perfect.
Sadly, I’ve returned my earphones to Amazon. Given they don’t even last 20 minutes I’m figuring they’re faulty. However, reading more and more of the reviews I’ve come to realise the short battery life in general is a real problem and replacing them would be pointless. I patiently await a new Sony product just like this with a powerful, long lasting battery!
