Stalker thriller has good moments but weak ending
18 November 2018
This is a fun slasher thriller, written in a way that hooks you in immediately. It’s about a shop manager Lizzie and the unknown stalker who sends her threatening messages. Immediately there is a line up of potential suspects. The controlling boyfriend, the sister she hasn’t seen in years, a man who asked her on a date, her shop assistant’s quiet brother.
Central character Lizzy is an everyday girl, unpretentious but a little naive. As the story is seen through her eyes, you develop empathy for her. But not too much. Because this is Shalini Boland who reserves a bit of cynicism for all of her characters.
‘Silent Sister’ flows well, keeps you entertained and is almost a five star read. But the big reveals at the end are not really believable. And the final twist just feels tacked on for no good reason.
