When Gillian, a lady’s companion, is employed by a doting father (the duke) they both focus on the welfare of his teenage daughter. This is a romance with a lot of life in it. The family dynamics are so real it feels like your own, with generous personalities and bossy ones. The duke is a great dad. There are funny moments when he wants his daughters happily married but resents any man who approaches them. Luckily honest Gillian Thorpe is strong enough to manage the family challenges.
In the hands of a lessor author this short tale could be a bit meh. But Heather Boyd brings such life to ‘The Duke and I’ that every paragraph is enjoyable. If you want a warm, light hearted romance this is highly recommended.
Not sure how I came to have this book in my kindle reading list - probably an accidental click scrolling, or the cat did it or something.
As it was there I thought I'd try a little read to see what it's about. I shouldn't have.
Writing a review presents me with a dichotomy between trying to follow the contemporary 'be kind' narrative and staying true to the 'be honest' principle of reviewing. I can't solve it so it's probably best I leave this one alone at this point for fear of causing offense...
Not a bad book, though very short. Still, it developed everyone nicely, so I didn't feel anything was missing due to the length. Sweet, romantic, and a nice HEA. Definitely would read more in the series.
