The Spyro Trilogy is an amazing collection of games, but with 1 major caveat when you buy the physical release you are only getting the 1st game. Only small portions of the other 2 games are actually on the disc. To complete the collection a 20+GB download is required. So if you have a slow internet connection just be aware of this before purchasing.
I've now fully finished the game. Everything that is doable has been done and as such I feel confident to review the games.
Spyro 1 is by far the most polished of the 3. It has the least bugs and clearly the most amount of love put into it. The music is great, the levels are lovingly recrafted and it's just an absolute joy to playthrough. Spyro 2 has a few issues but still, is probably my favorite out of them all. There's a few issues here and there but nothing overwhelming and the love is still there.
This brings me to Spyro 3. Spyro 3 is honestly bad in the Reignited trilogy. If you didn't know, Spyro 3 was shifted to another company to be remastered, and that lack of love SHOWS. Sgt Byrd's levels are borderline unplayable, with so many issues going on in his sections alone. Spyro 3 has some of the most frustrating levels and the bugs just amplify that. 3 was a let down in the quality department for me, it's playable but it's not necessarily always fun.
Overall, I am giving it a 3.5 (rounded to 4). It's not bad, 2 of the games are near perfect. The issues are annoying but don't ruin it entirely, without the issues I would have given it a flat 4. Spyro is a classic masterpiece and for the price, I'd say it's a safe pick-up.
Toys for Bob (dev) did a fantastic job revitalizing this old game from my childhood. Although 'collect-a-thons' may be outdated this will appeal to a wide fanbase that grew up with this style of gameplay. The visuals are amazing and modern controls make Spyro a pleasure to play through again. Would recommend!
Turns out i only remembered the second game from my childhood, and entirely forgot how repetitive the games are. if youre into that kinda thing, its a really good throwback and i thoroughly enjoyed it right up until red dead redemption released
Features all three Spyro games! Family fun and great for all ages 6 and up! We play it together as a family and help each other complete the stages. Easy controls, clear graphics. Don’t need PSN to play. The only negative is that it isn’t multiple player
