Describes the voyages and the principal characters very well but I felt that once the final expedition was considered lost the book dragged on a bit too long. It should have ended there and maybe an shorter postscript of the efforts to find the vessel would have sufficed.
After suffering from the paradox of choice of all the books written on the Franklin expedition, I came across a YouTube interview with Michael Palin talking about his new book - Erebus. I bought it straight away as I liked watching Palin’s adventures on TV. It was an up to date and easy to read account of the life of the ship and it’s crews - something I was as equally interested in as the Franklin expedition itself. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more about the subject of arctic exploration.
