To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Has it for a week. It doesn’t charge without being plugged in. Range is good if you have a plug nearby, but if not, it’s a flop. A bit disappointed. Screen is massive for a pocket also lol. The charge is my downfall.
Image quality and infrared is great, battery life of the parent unit is very short, between one and two hours. But worst of all is the very, very low range. We cannot even use it in our house in a different floor. For about 5m it is working but no more.
Before you buy read this! This is a NON-EXPANDABLE model (you cannot add additional cameras - “baby units”).
This unit, as is with two cameras only, is decent. The picture quality is not HD, but it’s also not terrible. Night vision is just fine at closer ranges, but degrades after about 5 to 6 feet. The reason we repurchased was because of the large screen size.
The reason I have chosen to give it an overall of 2 stars is because the manufacturer has elected to remove functionality of adding additional cameras to all models except one. The software is identical across their parent units (confirmed by their Customer Service Rep I spoke to), except for one menu item and that’s Pair/Unpair Camera. This functionality is only available on one model. The rest of the models have this menu selection disabled (hidden menu item). This is incredibly disappointing that VTECH would disable this feature! I have had to purchase an entire new set because the first parent unit was damaged and I now have 2 cameras that are useless, albeit totally functional. it would have been nice to have been able to call VTECH customer service and order a new Parent unit. Unfortunately a new parent unit would not have been programmed to my two existing cameras; hence the need to purchase an entire new set. The cameras are capable of pairing to new parent units, as they have a pin hole pairing button on the side. This yet again underscores their ability, but functionality removed. I’m disappointed and it appears that VTECH is positioning their company as “sales first and customer second”! Shame on VTECH!!
Our current non-wifi video monitor has been dying (Summer Infant brand) but lasted a whole 4 years. We thought we'd try this one to save some money....big mistake. What we were looking for was something with 1). Good picture quality, 2). Non-wifi of course, 3). Great night vision, 4). Split screen mode. This video monitor IS non-wifi so thats great but the night vision & picture quality is GARBAGE. I rarely right negative reviews but here we are. Split screen mode is also GARBAGE. Our old non-wifi video monitor by Summer Infant has split screen mode but audio while on ONE screen....maybe I assumed this one did the same but its total silence while on split screen which in my opinion...defeats the purpose of split screen. I would like to have it on split screen while having audio on at least ONE of the screens. Also you cant rotate/control camera with monitor which is not a big deal, this one isn't even claiming it does that but we prefer non-wifi video monitors that have the ability to control the camera via monitor (adjust it from monitor). We returned this one & went with the "MoonyBaby 2-camera video monitor" & we are SO MUCH HAPPIER. That one has all of these things, amazing picture quality/night vision, split screen with audio on one, rotating/controlling camera via monitor (so convenient!) & also has cool features like extra lenses to make the camera a wide lense. Sooo much nicer. So finally...unless you are truly in a pinch and want to save money and are okay with sacrificing picture quality & night vision as well as a pointless split-screen...go with MoonyBaby brand!
This monitor seemed perfect. Everything worked well, the picture and sound quality are excellent. I had to return this item because of one huge problem - there is a blinking light on the camera when the parent unit isn’t powered on. This may sound silly, but my baby got horribly distracted by the blinking light. I tried laying the camera down while I put her to sleep. That was fine. But when I’m clinging to sanity on mere hours of sleep, tiptoeing around to return the camera to the upright position seems to be a task fit only for a ninja.
This camera is great in many respects but has a glaring oversight. Having a Philip’s audio only monitor with pristine audio quality that can cut through our white noise machine made the audio quality of this product feel lacking. A real deal breaker for me is the fact that each of the two cameras has an obnoxiously bright green flashing light that is relentlessly flashing all night. The light is so bright that black tape won’t block it out as the green light will illuminate around the white plastic housing completely as well making it impossible to block. This goes against not just common sense but every single piece of sleep research you can find. A flashing light in this Spectrum of light is disruptive to sleep, period. You can remove the two screws on the back of the unit, pop it open and carefully remove the green light, but this should be done by the design teams at vtech ASAP. All baby products should have a no light option-why my child needs to know that a camera is on all night baffles me.
