Do yourself a favour and visit the best new small town known as Bootleg Springs. Known for its history bootlegging moonshine and the infamous disappearance of Callie Kendall this town is filled with quirky and loveable characters. The first book in a 6 book interconnected series by Lucy Score and Claire Kingsley delivered on what is now expected from these authors. Humour, heat, whacky characters and whole lot of steamy love.
Scarlett Bodine knows who she is and what she wants. She loves her job, her home and her family. When Devlin McCallister moves in next door to hide out after his high profile career imploded Scarlett decides he is her next project and she is going to fix him up and send him on his way. She has no interest in a long term love. But Devlin worms his way into her heart and family and becomes more then she could have ever imagined.
Scarlett’s supporting cast include some hot and over protective brothers and a tough sheriff best friend. I loved the way these characters are fiercely loyal and no matter what is happening in each of their relationships with Scarlett they are genuinely there to support her, even if they sometimes need a reminder to do so.
The signature craziness and humour that comes with a Lucy Score small town are found here including Bootleg Justice, a Moonshine Baseball Game and town chicken called Mona Lisa McNugget. Along with the heat of a fun and sexy couple.
Knowing that Lucy Score is working with Claire Kingsley on this series add a whole new level of awesome and already can’t wait to see where they take the characters, the town and the how the mystery of the disappearance of Callie Kendall unfolds.
At the end of this story I wanted to put my boots on and head to a bonfire a Scarlett’s and enjoy all that Bootleg Springs has to offer.
I absolutely adored this book! The perfect mix of humour, sweetness and a little bit of drama, the story held my attention from start to finish and now I want more! More of the Bodines, more Bootleg and don’t even get me started on the mystery that I can’t wait to unravel! Can’t wait for the next book in this series!
I found out about Bootleg Springs series whilst reading Annie Dyer's Sleighed and let me tell you this book is a hoot and a great start to what Im sure will be a wonderful series. This book hooked me in from the first paragraph. The characters are fabulous. Scarlett & Devlin's chemistry is off the charts. A tough spitfire Scarlett and the Politician Devlin are match made in heaven or in this case Bootleg Springs. First of a six part series based around different couples in each book, throw in a little cold case mystery of a missing girl and the possibility of a scandal and you have a very entertaining story. I can't wait to see the women that brings Scarlett's brothers to their knees especially tough as nuts character Gibson. Devlin and Scarlett's story is amazing. I fell in love with all of the characters of Bootleg Springs. You will definitely want to sink your teeth into this one
This book is just a whole heap of sassy fun, and at the same time thumbs it's nose at stereotypes and deals with some serious issues (mental health and alcoholism). I love Scarlett, she's a whole heap of fun, she never holds back in saying what she thinks. She makes a living doing home maintainence, bonus points for breaking one stereotype there, I feel a kinship with Scarlett right there as my father taught me I could do anything and fix anything too, although my Dad was a real sweetheart unlike Scarlett's. Devlin comes to Bootleg struggling after a messy marriage break up. One more stereotype goes west, we see him struggling with anxiety, mega bonus points right there daring to show a man dealing with mental health issues. I found the scene setting very well done, I have a really vivid picture of Scarlett on the back of a pickup drinking beer and having fun, and there were plenty of other little cues that just gave a great mental picture of a scene. There is a nice extra boost to the plot with the ongoing mystery of the unsolved disapearance of a young girl, this continues into the follow up series, so a cliffhanger in that sense, but the romance storyline gets all tied up in this one. I love Scarlett's brothers, and Cassidy and June too, I see they all get their own books, so I feel a binge read coming on.
Lucy Score has quickly become one of my favorite authors. Her stories are full of humor, sass, and wonderful characters that I seem to fall in love with every time. It’s safe to say I am having a love affair with Bootleg Springs after reading Whiskey Chaser.
Scarlett is a feisty and funny heroine, and although she may not be everyone’s cup of tea, she is the shot of whiskey I would rather any day of the week. Devlin won me over straight away, and I was immediately cheering for Scarlett to work her magic on him to bring him out of his shell.
An incredible start to a new series that I cannot wait to finish!
Absolutely loved this book. If you like hilarious romcoms with a bit of mystery and a lot of steamy scenes then this one's for you. Fantastic series, if you want to read a awesome romcom you've found your book.
Laugh out loud funny, great characters, but I ended up skipping through the erotica, because (in the second half of the book) they got it on enough, that I decided that there can be too much of a good thing. It would otherwise have been a five star review.
It was so good .. refreshingly good . Loved everything about it , Scarlett, Devlin, the broody brothers , the kooky friend's. And all the other crazy characters. Great writing and a promise for more books in the series which im looking forward to ..
