To be honest, I had never heard of Stan Savige until I selected this book and read of his exploits which commenced when he was selected as a sniper during World Way 1. From this moment on, it was hard to put the book down as the author clearly steered the reader through the many battles he was involved in. Not only did he serve with distinction in the First World War, he also played a very important part whilst serving during the Second World War, especially during the fighting along the Kokoda Track. For all his heroic acts which included assisting other eminent Australians, he was made a Knight of the Realm for services rendered.
An amazing story of a soldier who somehow managed to remain alive through Gallipoli, the Western Front, MiddleEast during WW1 and then throughout the Pacific war rising from age 17, through the ranks, to become a very senior officer under Sir Thomas Blamey. Every Australian should read his story.
