Three more highly entertaining books in this series. Having met Ivy in the previous books it is a surprise to discover just how much she has hidden of her previous life. Her layers are peeled away with the help of Sebastian, a notorious rake. She caused a scandal in her past which resulted in her life changing forever.
Joanna appeared briefly in book one: she is Noras sister and is now a widow and staying with Nora. She always longed to have children and takes employment as governess to her nieces friend, the daughter of widower Bran, newly returned from Barbados. Bran had a harrowing childhood. Bullied by his older brothers and beaten by his mother for being ‘different’, ignored by his father he ran away, took the first boat he could find and lived a happy life in Barbados, where his so called idiosyncratic behaviour was not as noticeable. He has been forced to return to England as the unexpected heir after the deaths of his brothers and father. Bran and Joanna discover that together they can overcome the tortures of the past.
We are reunited with Lionel as he prepares to fight in his third duel. His opponent is Lord Townsend, who we previously saw elope with Emmaline Forth-Hodges. Lionel has a dangerous reputation due to his duels, which is unfortunate as he is a deeply caring, thoughtful and generous man. He promises Emmaline that he will do anything to help her after her husband dies from the wound he inflicted. Emmalines parents arrange a marriage with a much older man and her only escape is to quickly marry someone else. So she tells Lionel she wants a marriage of convenience and he agrees. As she gets to know Lionel she discovers his true self, and that he is not the man she believed him to be.
I enjoy reading this author's books. The storylines were interesting and plots well devised. Maybe the interaction of the main characters in each book was repeated just a little to much. But it will not stop me finding more untouchable books.
