Have you ever read a book that has left you thinking 'what did i just read?' This book has left me speechless and all for the good reasons. I have never had such a reaction to a book that I have needed to put it down, take a break and walk away. A book that felt like it was shedding me to pieces. A book that restored faith in people. Long Shot may be set in the NBA world but the life of Iris is one so many people live with that to have it put out there and confronted with it, makes you take a breath and think what the hell is wrong with some people, how can they do that. Iris is truly beautiful, a woman who by far has a strong mind, heart and determination. August, wow, where are all the men like him. His beautiful soul, his love and strength mended my heart.
An absolute heart wrenching story that does finish with a happy ending. I tend to stay away from "sports" stories but grabbed this when I heard some reviews. It held me captivated from the start. So much emotion in a storyline that involves domestic abuse, a topic that people tend to shy away from but Bravo Kennedy Ryan, you did an awesome job with this topic.
I had high expectations for this book due to the reviews and recommendations I'd viewed on Instagram. Kennedy Ryan did not disappoint. This book was so much more than I was hoping for.
I laughed, cried, loved, bled, hurt and hoped right along with Iris. Such an emotionally charged read and what a rare find August was, so sexy, so determined and his love and devotion for Iris was unwavering.
A wonderfully written, intense and beautiful reading experience.
This book is as heartbreaking as it is does justice to the women who live/ have lived through the hell of domestic violence. I cried, put the book away, picked it again. Its so gripping ans sad. Kennedy ryan writes so well I love how she weaves poetry into her work. She's truly devine.
Long Shot is my first Kennedy Ryan book, and I am kicking myself right now for it! How have I never read any of her works before? Why has nobody thrust a book under my nose and made me read it?
Long Shot is gripping, and I couldn't put it down once I started. It is heartbreaking, it is compelling, it is full of hope. I never knew what was going to happen as I turned each page.
I had such visceral reactions to events in this book. My body visibly shook as I felt all the anger and pain. I wanted to reach into my kindle and get myself into the story, sort some people out!
I adore Iris and August. My heart hurt. My heart soared. I just needed then to find their way.
Iris is one heck of a woman. She is the epitome of someone finding their inner strength when she is in her darkest days. I don't want to give anything away about the story, but boy oh boy it is rough and tough at times.
I was swept up in this story, and didn't want it to end.
Now I need to go buy some more Kennedy Ryan books, as this one has me hooked.
Did you hear that sound? That was the sound of my mind blowing. Woah.... I am so in love with this book! This book is in my Top 5 for 2018, and my top 5 EVER. Nothing I say in this review will even come close to telling you how truely amazing and remarkable this story truely is. Kennedy has knocked this out of the park, knocked it out of this world. There is a rawness to this story, there is no sugarcoating. It’s raw, it’s confronting, it takes your emotions on a roller coaster and it’s also sexy and beautiful. I had to put my kindle down a couple of times because of the powerful emotions this book was making me feel. I bawled..I felt angry, sad, happy and hot. It seriously broke me. All the pain, the heartache, the love!
August is a gorgeous star basketball player. His character is incredible and boy does he have some hot skills, on and off the court! There are so many things I want to say about him but I can’t because I do not want to give away any of the story. Iris is beautiful. Her character is so strong, one of the strongest heroines I have read about. The connection felt between August and Iris is palpable. Through every page they are together you can feel them. Their emotions, their want, their lust. These two are a match made in heaven. I loved Sarai and Lotus. Other secondary characters in the book were also great... except for one.... but I won’t get into that!
Kennedy’s writing is exceptional. Every word she writes is encased with so much emotion that you can feel it right down to your soul. This book is inspirational, it is incredible, and I absolutely loved every single bit about it. From the subject matter to the mixed heritages of the characters, to the way this book made me feel. I can not wait until I can read the next book in this series.
I would love to tell you the exact reasons that I loved this book so much but without giving away the nuances of the story I can’t.
Kennedy blew me away with this book, it’s so much more than a love story it’s an experience and a journey through darkness and pain to self fulfilment and love.
If sports books aren’t your thing please give this a try, yes the hero August is a hotshot NBA star but this to me was Iris’s story. Nothing in the story is sugar coated, it’s in your face brutal reality of her life. I cried at her pain as much as I rejoiced at her strength and determination. August was not her salvation or her saviour he was just hers, from the moment he met her he was hers.
I know my review is vague but that’s because I have no words to describe just how fabulous this book is my favourite book by this author.
I am going to miss August SO MUCH!! Wow, what an absolutely perfect hero he was. I think he has shot to number one by a long shot. This is one of the best sports NBL stories I have read. This was so well written, a devastating but also beautiful love story with many triggers. It was light and dark, it had humour and horror, it was a love triangle of sorts (but not the usual triangle, so don’t be put off by that... I hate love triangles). This story spans over a few years (not sure how many, i lost track, probably only around 4 or 5) and what a journey it was for both August and Iris. Iris was an amazing heroine and i feel like I know them both so well. I cannot wait till the next book about Iris’s best friend Lo is released. I would love to continue with this series and hopefully catch up with August again.... oh my heart.
What an amazing book. So much more than just a sports romance. Well written with great depth addressing some important issues and what a beautiful love story with August and Iris. August was so solid, supportive and loving which was exactly what Iris needed. Wow Iris, what an amazing lady with so much strength and courage.
