When I purchased this book I was delving deep into my brain on what passed in the first, and was a bit reluctant because of the years gap. But I knew I loved Red Sister (also a thank you to Mark for the recap at the start) and the more pages I turned, the more came flooding back and this book does not disappoint. Follows on effortlessly from Red Sister and the absolutely brilliant plotting and storytelling throughout this book had me burning through the pages. I found it had more depth and twists, but this is also due to the charms & quirks of the characters that continue on in this book. Can’t wait for the next release to see where the author will take us & the characters next.
Excellent plot, very innovative, great use of heroic-fantasy. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Couldn’t put it down. Really hungering for the sequel. Strongly recommend this for those who appreciate writing of the caliber that makes it seem that you are watching TV. I am going back to re-read it now.
I was just in the mood for this sort of book. It is an adventure story with few complications of real-life relationships or events and rather simple worldbuilding. The characters are mini-dimensional, the goodies are real goodies and the baddies are real baddies - even the baddies who are goodies are easily understandable. I read the first in this series (and lost a bit of sleep in the process), read the second (losing more sleep) and was disappointed the third is not yet available.
This series is my first foray into Mark's work and I must say that I couldn't put either this or the preceding book down. Highly engaging and developed characters and a fantastic plot. Can't wait for the next book. I'll be reading the earlier series while I wait.
Finished the first book and had to immediately get this book and keep reading. A great book, hard to put down. Descriptive without taking forever, great pacing and overall a really enjoyable book. I'm eagerly awaiting the next entry!
