Excellent structure of the story by being engrossing, entertaining and somewhat bewildering as there are many twists and turns that make guessing the ending almost impossible. Faith writes with such a colorful phrase that I am forming in my mind the beautiful Oxford locations that she describes. The characters are structured realistically in a way that makes them believable.

Once more the victim lives alone in a large mansion. Very few clues and nobody seems to have seen anything. Hillary has to start bringing all the clues together to catch the killer. But even then, death still lingers.

People of strong faith are not depicted favourably in the DI Greene series of books.

This book is not as strong as others in this series. The murder mystery itself is about average. The real strength is in the struggle of the investigating team to feel sympathy for the victim.

Rachel Miller – secretary to Barry Jones, and ‘the other woman’ in the divorce case. Her car was seen outside the murdered woman’s house during the murder-opportunity window. George Philby – an old-time lover, and father of her illegitimate baby, which Mattie put up for adoption. Timothy Kershaw – the dead woman’s very handsome lover. Tabitha Bryce – the dead woman’s daughter, raised by adopted parents.

Once again, Faith Martin has produced one of her best plots yet. I love the characters and feel as though they are intimate friends of my own. Must, must read book 9 in the series.
