Vector by Anki - HandeTech review.
14 December 2018
Anki's robot sidekick Vector has one big downside, the amount of battery uptime. I found out after purchasing that this is only 15~30mins.
Does this sidekick hold up to the hype?
Yes, and no.
Sometimes Vector recognises me, sometimes not. Sometimes Vector follows commands, sometimes (even after repeating the command) not. Nope, Vector just didn't compute.
Another big point, note that I work in I.T and networks/internet is my forte but to setup Internet connectivity on Vector, well it is just not intuitive. After several attempts and about an hour of frustration, Vector was "online". I guess this will get streamlined as Vector is programmable and upgradeable (via a nightly update check).
Overall, Vector is a bit of a distraction from the daily grind and the functions Vector are useful (when Vector does understand the question) however, I can't get over the feeling that I have a spy in the my midst.
One thing that has really bugged me is the almost instant price drop after I purchased. I could've bought almost two for the price I paid. I feel conned.
With that big downside of low battery time Vector has been relegated to the very expensive fad heap. I may have a look at the SDK in the coming days to see if there is some fine tuning that can be done to justify the expense.
Like any first gen. product, I'm guessing it can only get better and more useful.
