Daughter of Death is the first book in the Dark Provenance series by Lexi C. Foss. It is also part of the Bad Girls collection of stories, which is a collaboration of thirteen talent authors who have come together to release one new book a month over the next twelve months, where each author is designated their own month, and all the stories are centred around the same theme- kick *** women who are good at being bad. This is the second book in the collection/series. Ms. Foss never disappoints! This book is sooooo good. I devoured it in a matter of hours and came out the other end seriously excited by this breathtaking start to a brilliant new series. Ms. Foss is one of my all-time favourite authors. I can’t get enough of her books. She has an exceptional way with words, a real flare for world building and is also incredibly talented when it comes to character development. I never feel like I am merely reading her words….. I always feel like I’m part of the story, experiencing it along with the characters. Her imagination knows no bounds and I am in awe of her mastery of her craft. Every one of her series/books have made it into my favourite reads, and she is an instant one-click for me- I don’t even need to read the blurb because I just know I’m going to love it. This book is a paranormal/fantasy, with a bit of a darker edge to the story- there is romance, drama, action, adventure, violence, angels, demons, heaven and hell, mystery suspense…. and so much more. I don’t think I can do this book the justice that it deserves- the blurb does a great job of letting you know what to expect, and I don’t want to give away spoilers- because if you are a paranormal/fantasy fan, or a lover of a great action packed story- then believe me that this is one book that you won’t want to miss! I loved every single detail about the story and adore Evangeline and Xai. Perfect characters! Perfect story! It has all the ‘feels’, it’s funny in parts, and also had me on the edge of my seat for most of the book. I cannot wait to see what Ms. Foss comes up with next, because whatever it is will be brilliant! I will also be reading the rest of the Bad Girl collection as each book releases! If the first two books are anything to go by, the series is sure to be incredible!
Firstly, I’ve never read anything by Lexi so this book was a first for me and I really enjoyed all paranormal elements that she introduced into this series:) Eve and Xai are both Angels but Fallen. They have been on Earth for thousands of years and are fighting to keep the balance between the planes. Unfortunately, Xai has shown up after years of not seeing Eve and summons her to Miami to meet with the Demonic Lord of that Region. Xai never one to be known to give information keeps her in the dark about the summons. When she makes it to Miami, she is told she has seven days to prove she didn’t kill who they say she did, otherwise she will be tortured in Hell, but it gets better she has to work with Xai whom she has a love/hate relationship with!
Great read and certainly looking forward to more in this series as well as the Bad Girls series!
Daughter of Death by Lexi C. Foss is the second book in the Bad Girls project and the first book in A Dark Provenance series. The book focuses on Evangeline, as she is framed for the murder of a Demon Lord’s daughter; a crime she didn’t commit. Evangeline must clear her name, whilst trying not to kill the sexy angel she Fell from Heaven for. This book was sizzling with sexual tension between Eve and Xai, and not suitable for young audiences, because boy oh boy it is steamy! Eve definitely fit the Bad Girl profile, being the quite literally the daughter of death and vengeance. I loved her strength and fierceness , as well as her sarcasm and quick wit. Though sometimes I did try to shout at my book, desperately trying to scream sense into Eve’s head strong attitude. But that’s what a good book does, it makes you stay up all night reading it and it makes you want to strangle various characters for their recklessness. I’m looking at you Xai. Overall I give this book 5 stars, and look forward to reading more of the Bad girls project, and more from A Dark Provenance series.
Daughter of Death is book one in the Dark Provenance Series by Lexi C. Foss and is a brilliant story. I enjoy reading Lexi’s books but Daughter of Death drew me in on another level and I so enjoyed the darker side to this story. This dark paranormal romance tale is full of demons, chaos and death and Lexi's ability to create different worlds with the paranormal setting is both deadly and beautiful.
Our Heroine is one badass, sexy, sassy assassin just trying to lay low and live her life after years of pain she would just rather forget, but when the one person she loves hate, or hates to love, Xai, turns up again, Eve is forced to have him back in her life.
Lexi’s writing puts you right in the middle of this action packed thriller as our characters try to right the wrong, with thrilling fight scenes, sexy and oh so steamy chemistry, and a world of pain and hurt but also wonderful surprises.
This is one compelling read that you will not put down until you have gobbled it all up.
Absolutely brilliant read. I've read other books by this author before and I have to say I loved those, however, DOD felt like it was on another level. I can only assume it's because DOD is a little darker than Foss's other novels. This has the sadistic and the hard-core feel to it and I find myself drawn to it more.
The lead female character Eve is a retired assassin and fallen angel and the epitome of a bad girl trying to keep her head down. She works unassuming in a bar, until the one person that she hates (but actually loves) comes walking in. Xai. He tells her that her presence is wanted elsewhere. When she gets there, it seems the situation is dire. She has been set up for something she didn't do and is given a week to clear her name or else. Xai is given the task of accompanying her on this journey. Whilst trying to find the real culprit/s, they also find themselves fighting their attraction to each other (literally) Xai has unyielding power, he too is a fallen angel and one of the only people to have ever bested the badass assassin. They have a balance of power and even though Eve knows she cant "defeat" Xai, it doesn't stop her trying.
As you can imagine with a dark paranormal story. Chaos ensues. Both have one hell of a fight, not just with the demons they are assigned to keep in order but with themselves and the attraction they feel towards each other. Watching their chemistry, it feels electric. No its not only electric, its and electrical storm full of loud thunder claps and flashes of light. It simmers and then explodes. It leaves you quite breathless. Its compelling to read.
