This book is hard to rate. It could be hood but sets a dangerous standard for relationships. I get it’s a book, but still setting an example of mental and emotional abuse and the occasional light physical abuse and then the female being ok with it and understanding it and loving him for it isn’t ok. If a young girl reads this it’s setting her up to think it’s ok when she’s older and to stay on a potentially dangerous and deadly situation. I did like this book but I couldn’t overlook the above to rate it higher.
Drake seems to have it all, he is a billionaire and CEO of his own company, what more could he need? Then a visit to the doctor shakes his foundation, he is working too hard, has too much stress and this is affecting his heart. He suddenly realizes he has no one to pass on his company, the legacy he carried from his father and grew. Norico is the eldest daughter to her family in Japan, her father drops a bomb that he has cancer but they have no funds to fight the disease. She takes a risk and sells herself to be a bride to pay for his medical care. Drake and Norico are an unlikely pair. They both have their demons to fight. Norico desperately wants to return to Japan but the more she spars with Drake, the more she sees a hurt soul that is craving love and acceptance. How does Norico balance these conflicting emotions? Drake so desperately wants love that he does all the wrong things to keep and show Norico but will all his effort just drive her away? This is a complex romance, just when you think you understand what drives Drake, more layers are revealed which would make my heart hurt for him. Then he would piss me off with how he treated Norico, oh he gave material things but then would confine her without explaining his behavior. This kept me on the emotional roller-coaster to see if they could find a HEA.
