This is a brilliant new LitRPG series. I read the first one 3 days ago, and have just finished the 4th book.
This first book starts in the fantasy world of Dunyanin, but later books introduce Space and Steampunk worlds. There is also a lot of physics, particularly in book 4. This went way over my head, but I appreciate the author's erudition.
One of the things I loved about this series is that the MC's internal monologuing only occurs every 100 pages or so, in the form of a 2 page diary. Unlike a lot of current LitRPG, the MC does not spend an inordinate amount of book time agonising and second-guessing her choices. The rest of the books are non-stop action and gaming.
The MC is smart, driven, moral, kick-ass in the best possible way. She is both highly socially competent and yet clueless when it comes to friendships and romance.
Cons: * There are a lot of typos in book 1; * I'm not so keen on Space/Steampunk/physics, so I found these sections a little less gripping.
I love the feeling of finding a great new series - the prospect of hours upon hours of reading pleasure. This book didn’t disappoint. It’s very well written - painting a believable picture of a future world. The MC is likeable and impressively kick-ass. The game play is interesting with some great character development. Some of the combat/dungeon-diving gets a little bit repetitive, but everything else is so good you hardly notice. Often in the genre, I get frustrated with too much storyline in the real world. In Nascent, the blending of the real and game world elements was a real highlight. Well done!
After reading this first book in one sitting - I immediately purchased the other two in this series and now I can't wait for the next one. I really hope that the next book is available soon.
The premise of this story is simple but very interesting and the development of the characters both good and bad are entirely believable which make this series both very enjoyable and highly engrossing. I read all three books in the series that available back to back and can't wait for more.
I agree with the other readers that also enjoyed the series, having brought the 2nd book as well I liked the female main character's thirst for knowledge, her different approach to difficult situations.
She encounters different NPCs and i liked how she is unlike the normal person in treating game characters and A.Is. It was her view of things that attracted me to the story snd i suggest trying the sample book for yourself.
