Top critical review
Boys' own adventure, with the same amount of subtlety and finesse.

There's very little in the way of story arc or character development, and a good 50% of the book is an endlessly boring description of the hero of the hour training some people to be soldiers. It's clearly been written with the sole purpose of requiring a sequel, with at least three "storylines" (such as they are) introduced without even a hint of resolution. Not my cup of tea at all.
