I don't quite know how to write this review: it certainly is a great story, but it fill full of pathos and love. I cannot imagine the circumstances that would lead a young innocent girl having to follow the orders of a parent to marry someone she has never met, let alone a man who is surrounded in mystery. The developments of this story show different aspects of both men and women as they are brought into the company of someone who is conflicted with both the physical and the mental aspects of horrific drama and loss. This one of the best stories by Bridget that I have read. I hope that she continues to provide us all with similar reads in the future. I received an advance reader copy of this book, but this is my own voluntary review.
An enchanting story portraying emotions and struggle beautifully, I enjoyed every second of it. The main characters were people I would be happy to spend time with, and with enough events to keep the story moving.
What a wonderful story ! From ill treatment through testing and trouble, a wonderful story is woven with both faultless friends and snide gossipers. In a wonderful setting of mystique and grandure this is a book well worth reading. I smiled, I needed tissues, I loved it !
Another enjoyable read from Bridget Barton who has a great eye for interior decor and compelling plots. It's a beauty and the beast tale except in this version the father of Beauty (Isabella) is a total tool. He sells her into an unwanted marriage with the neighbourhood bogey man - a scarred duke, who nobody has seen for 20 years. Isabella first sees her new hubby's ruined face at the alter and promptly passes out from the shock. It's not an auspicious start to a marriage that consists of polite candlelight chats where he hides the bad side of his face. Will his self consciousness and her evil relatives prevent Isabella and the duke from having a true marriage?
The main strength is the delicate dance of a new couple around each other's unhappy histories. It's not one of those HRs where they rush into the library and grope each other in chapter 3. It's slower and more realistic, but so well done it feels as tense as a thriller. And the conclusion is truly touching.
Wow loved this book, it provided laughter, tears and lots of love. It shows how we (people) can look beyond a persons look and truly see the person who they are on the inside. Also, that from tragedy and hardships in life that love can overcome many obstacles. Read this now, well worth the read. You will not put it down until finished it completely.
A beautiful story of a young woman terrorized by her own father and sold to a Duke that is scarred during a family tragedy. Isabella thinks she is going to be terrorized again by the monster that is the duke but finds his life to be empty and difficult. Isabella brings happiness and love to Elliot's world. A truly gripping story that I have read several times now.
