This is an enjoyable mystery romance. Lord Graham and Beatrice face much adversity, but their banter adds lighter moments.
After being lost at sea as a child, Lord Graham finally returns to his home. Frankly he was better off staying with the abusive pirates who raised him. Back home at the castle his mother is half dead, his brother resents him and an evil cousin is milking his estate. Oh and the cousin's wife is so wicked she makes Lucretia Borgia look like a wuss. Thankfully there is his mother’s ward, kind Beatrice, who melts Graham's pirate heart. In between pashing in the library, Beatrice and Graham try to work out who is trying to kill Graham's family.
In lesser hands this story could be unbelievable. The plot twists wind around and the 4 (yes four) baddies are way too villainous. But the dialogue is entertaining and Graham’s relationship with Beatrice is both funny and realistic. Overall it works really well.
