I think this was the most heart wrenching one of the series this far! Likely for a number of factors the other books didn't have - the history between our 2 MCs, that Hannah had a daughter Abby, the prejudices of Wes' mother towards Hannah.
Once again, as with the rest of this series, this book could be read as a standalone while it's great to see more of what the previous characters are up to, it wasn't integral to the story, and in fact had no impact at all!
It was a beautifully written story and I found myself wanting more - I wanted to know more of the specific conversations that were only hinted at, I wanted to see how they stood up to the town gossip, I wanted to see them reveal everything to their family and friends after the Wedding, not just have it stop there.
Both Hannah and Wes were amazing characters - and I loved that Wes finally stood up for himself and what he was feeling rather than backing down for Drew, even though Drew wasn't around any more.
Love this series and can't get enough of this author! If you haven't read it yet, do yourself a favour and do it now!
Have your tissues ready everyone, this one is a real emotional roller coaster, but it's a beautiful ride. We follow Hannah, mother of Abby and a young widow trying to get through life after the sudden death of her husband Drew. This is made all the more difficult when Drew's twin brother, Wes arrives back from overseas reminding Hannah of what she lost. Little does she know the long held feelings that Wes holds for her. She couldn't possibly fall in love again could she? Surely not with the man who shares her dead husbands face. This was such an emotional story, Hannah is not just fighting to stay sane but she's also fighting the ghosts of the past and her misconception that love can conquer all. Wes has his own battles, including his mother, can he step up this time rather than step aside?
Ultimately, 'From This Moment' by Melanie Harlow was a story of hope, love and choosing to live life. Melanie really 'nailed it' with her wonderful writing and she took me on so many emotional 'trips' - moving, uplifting, passionate, sweet, funny, sad and poignant. Although 'From This Moment' was a character-based novel, the plot was strong, with plenty of interesting complexities and tense moments. However, it was beautifully simple, too. The MCs were well-developed, relatable and endearing (the secondary characters were effective, too). The dialogue, dual POVs and inner-musings added to the rich narrative. Simply put, the book told about good people wanting to do the right thing. Hannah was shattered after the loss of her husband Drew. She was everything I like in a heroine - strong, witty, smart and gorgeous, but fallible and vulnerable, too. Now a widow, she was a single mother to adorable, little Abbey. Wes was Drew's identical twin, in looks, but not personality. Drew had been confident while Wes was shy. They had once been inseparable. Six months on from Drew's unexpected death, Wes returned from a Doctor's Without Boarders assignment in Africa. (You can understand Hannah's pain whenever she sees Wes...a 'ghost', she called him.) Wes wanted to support Hannah, Abby and his family, helping them to heal, while he went through the grieving process, himself. He had a great sense of humour, a warm personality, was sexy, big-hearted and very sweet. He was quite determined, too. It seemed Wes carried a torch for Hannah. A little taboo, but attraction is a huge force and Melanie created the chemistry between them, perfectly - sometimes sensitively and other times explosively. I expected their journey to be a real tearjerker with challenges, but it was also a surprise packet. 'From This Moment' was a beautifully written story and I'm so glad I read it...it's a keeper!
What a struggle Hannah & Wes had. You showed how caring, considerate & loving they were to each other but 100% more to Abby. It is sad thathumans can be narrow mindec, judge ental and just down right nasty. I love how you portrayed human reactions as it is today & yesteryear. My husband's Auntie lost her fiancee in the war and yet married his brother. Also in a small community. They beat the odds just like Hannah, Wes & Abby. No-one should underestimate the power of love. Thank you Melanie Harlow for showing me what our Aunt & Uncle had to endure. Showing to us the raw nature of the love and conflict resolving eventually. What a hard worrisome road they travelled. Again Thank You.
"I knew the moment I saw you that you were the one....The one I’d always love. The one I’d always dream about. The one I’d always wish was mine.”
Swooooooonnnnnn!!!!!! Without a doubt, FROM THIS MOMENT is Melanie Harlow's best book EVER!!! I fell hopelessly in love with this beautifully written, forbidden love story that was intense, passionate and heartbreaking!!!
I have to admit that I was hesitant with the dead spouse back story, but Ms. Harlow did an outstanding job of focussing on the blossoming relationship between Wes and Hannah instead. I thought it was amazing the way she encompassed the different views of how people would react to Wes and Hannah's secret affair, from their immediate family to even the town gossips. I really felt my heart break into pieces for Hannah -not only for the loss of Drew, but her inner turmoil in dealing with her feelings for Wes, to her self doubt of not being enough for her precious daughter Abby, to her ongoing battle with her overbearing mother in law. I couldn't help but admire her for her strength, courage and resilience.
And Wes, oh my, he has easily made it to my list of favourite book boyfriends! He was PERFECT in every single way - his loyalty for stepping aside for Drew initially, to his patience with taking things slow with Hannah. But what did it for me was his love for Abby - my ovaries combusted whenever he was with her!!! I loved that the scenes with Wes and Hannah always burned with so much passion and longing, and even from the beginning, you could feel that their connection was intoxicating and soul deep.
Ms. Harlow is not only an expert at penning very HOT and sexy love scenes that left me panting, but she is also able to pull out all the FEELS from me! I laughed, I choked back tears and I swooned! Her addictive narrative had me glued to the pages and it was one of those books that I couldn't wait to get to the end, yet at the same time, I wanted to slow down and savour every single word with sheer delight! I couldn't wait for Wes and Hannah to find their much deserved HEA, and Ms. Harlow didn't disappoint with an ending that had me donning the goofiest lovesick grin with goosebumps and happy feels all over!!!!
I have a bunch of Melanie Harlow books on my kindle, but this is the first one I’ve actually managed to pick up and read because I keep downloading so many (bookworm problems, am I right? :-P)
I really enjoyed this book and getting to know the characters. Hannah was a very intense and emotional character, and sometimes I just wanted her to not be so stubborn, but in light of her situation and having lost her husband, there’s no-one that can tell you how to deal with those emotions and the grief because everyone deals differently.
It was interesting to read the conversations she would have with Tess, he friend from her Wine Widows group. Some of the comments they made to each other were quite funny and its nice to see a character with that support around her, from people who can relate.
Wes was such a sweet character – I liked him straight away and he wasn’t one of those annoying male leads. His rapport with Abby was wonderful to watch, and he was perfect for Hannah. He had so much more patience than I would’ve with his mother as well. That woman. Wow I really disliked her. His Dad didn’t have as much of a role in the story even though he was in there, he was like a very perceptive and quiet secondary character. I liked him.
Overall I enjoyed this book, and I think some of the secondary characters have had their own book, so I would like to read their story too.
This book captured my heart and broke it within the first few pages and then put it back together chapter by chapter. From This Moment featuring Wes and Hannah is a story that will take you on an emotional roller coaster with plenty of ups and downs as Hannah, a woman who was once a dreamer, a woman who believed in love and happiness, struggles to not only allow love into her life but to recapture her faith and belief in the power of love. From This Moment, for Wes, is a second chance romance, a second chance to love Hannah, a woman who he had always secretly carried a torch for. This was the first book of Melanie Harlow's that I have read, but it will definitely not be the last. I'm happy to say that I've found a new author whose books I thoroughly enjoy. The characters in this book were so easy to connect with, their emotions - my own, as the pages turned and I lost track of time. I highly recommend reading this book.
Thank you to Social Butterfly PR and Melanie Harlow for providing me with an arc of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This is the second book I have listen to & they have all been Melanie Harlow. This one was different to the last one that I listen to as the struggle was with the heroine' s self doubt as she had been through so much but Wes was amazing & loved her from the start.
