WOW, JUST WOW. I am an avid reader and follower of Ker's and I am proud to say that I have read everyone of her books so when I saw 'Devil' I was all grabby hands and wanted it ASAP.
Evi is a lost soul and in her mind reality beckons but Evi is swimming within the darkness recess of her mind, drowning to the depth of hell. She feels so alone in the world and just trying to decifer what is real and what are dreams warping her reality. Max is Eva's childhood friend and comes back into her life 12yrs after thinking he will never see her again. The dynamic between the two of them is off the charts and I was on the sidelines cheering them on.
I was fully drawn into the thoughts and feelings that Evi was going through. My heart felt her despair, anguish and confusion I just wanted to grab her and give her a huge hug. My heart broke for her.
Both Max and Evi are two of my favourite characters and Devil is a 2017 favourite and must read.
DEVIL by Ker Dukey was unexpected and fed my dark side quite nicely. Although this story started out quite slow im glad I hung in there as the build up had me inquisitive enough to certainly want more!
Evi Devil lives inside her tortured mind. The effects from living with monsters and suffering horrendous acts. Her mind has blocked out her past for a reason and what she thinks is real may all actually be an illusion? Desperate, she needs to know who she is and what happened before waking up in a hospital with no memory. Therapy has caused more uncertainty and questions, she needs to go back to where it all began.
The story of what happened to Evi Devil is not pretty by any means. When she meets a boy from her past he, much to his unease, helps her find the truth to that fateful night. Always her protector he travels the path with her back to the truth... ohh and truth was quite an unexpected surprise!
Twists at every turn, reality is tipped upside down and left me not knowing what way was up or down. You need to read this to the end to find out what actually is. As I said, this book was slow starting and tends to pitter-patter along, but hang in there because they ending will reveal all!
I love this author and Devil was another example of why...
KER DUKEY DOES IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!! This book was thrilling, bone chilling, haunting, dark and completely unpredictable, I loved every word of it. We are introduced to the enigma that is Evi, she can't remember who she is or where she come from, from a certain age her memories are completely blank, but she knows that her past is sinister and pure darkness. When Evi is sent a box with information regarding her past, she knows she has to figure out if the terrors that haunt her mind are real or just pretend. While she tries to find answers from where it all begun, she comes across a man Max who might just have all the answers she so desperately needs. Max was Evi's only childhood friend who meant everything to one another at such a young age, now grown, when Max sees Evi again that connection is still as strong as ever. But as Evi continues to unlock her past, truth comes to light, reality turns to lies and emotions turn to darkness and confusion.
Words can not describe just how brilliantly this story was written with layer after layer with intricate woven storyline that kept you glued to the pages and had you on the edge of your seat. With Ker Dukey, I know that my appetite for dark romance is going to be feed, yet with this book I completely indulged and feasted on the darkness. The book showed how much the mind can be your friend or foe, it can make us so fragile, yet at time so strong, it can protect against hurt or pain, or then it can become our enemy and start playing games with us. I was in love with the damaged characters, the intense chemistry between Evi & Max, the unknown of where is story was going, the utter evilness of the people that are suppose to love and protect forever and the mesmerising madness. I am in awe of Ker and this book, it was pure genius and highly recommend 1000% that loves suspense, thrillers, dark romance or just amazing writing. Can't wait to see what else Ker Dukey delivers because I will be reading whatever she writes. Congratulations on this masterpiece!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ker Dukey is one of my favourite authors, she always takes us on an exciting and twisted journey which often leaves you open mouthed and asking "did I really just read that" and this book is exactly that. The story flowed mainly well; there were times I went back and re read paragraphs because I didn't quite pick up quick enough on what I was reading and I really only went back to clarify certain points. Well written as always, this story is fairly dark and holds many a twist and lots questions that you want answering. This book is a psychological thriller and a mind F*** !!!
Evi Devil is a traumatised young lady that experienced an horrific event when she was nine years old and has no memory of that night. Later adopted with a loving family she starts to recall her past life through her therapists, but Evi is still living in the dark with horrific flashback; her mind is in turmoil with her soul and this is her story.
I felt Evi's pain so much, at times the tragedy and horror of it all is just so very very sad to read. Max I loved as soon as he was introduced to this story line, both characters connected well considering their pasts and this was projected well in the book, and just when I thought I had all the answers in my head; Ker completely turned it around with that wonderful devilish mind of hers, her imagination is amazing and a gift that keeps us the reader on your toes. I thought I had figured out Evi many a time, only to be taken down another rabbit hole and I was back to square one again.
A thoroughly in depth and disturbing read that I really enjoyed in true Ker style which I have come to love and anticipate, but don't take this wonderful author for granted because just when you think you have her sussed - the ending of this book will blow your mind !!!! A MUST READ
Well what we have here is another five plus star read by Ker Dukey. Oh yes indeedy, I was glued from start to finish. If you want something out of the ordinary then you should definitely give this a go.
There are twists and turns of course; it is Ker Dukey's book and wouldn't be right without those mind **** moments. There were parts I was like REALLY?! I did not see those parts coming at all. It was very cleverly written and made you believe every word, until everything you believe to be true is no longer the case.
I was well and truly sucked into the mind of Evi; I felt her darkness, feelings, thoughts, emotions and I even felt the heat when her dirty thoughts took over jeeeeez!! I felt like I used the pensieve in Harry Potter; as soon as I opened the page it sucked me in and I was living it, completely oblivious to what was going on around me. It's definitely a one clicker! A Book Lover's Emporium.
On my goodness this book is simply amazing Ker always gives you something different with each book. The blurb doesn't give anything away about the story and neither will I. The story is unique and like nothing I've read before and one of my top reads this year. Evil is an amazingly strong young woman despite what she's been through. Max how can you not fall in love with a man who says this to you 'My soul has known yours before we were put on earth and it will love you long after we leave it' I thought I knew what was going to but how wrong I was, read this and let Ker take you for a ride you never expected.
Amazing. This is truly an amazing read. I sat and read this as soon as it hit my kindle. I had a feeling it was gonna be good but it was a brilliant read.
I loved Max. I felt so sorry for Evi and was so proud of how strong she was. These two are my favourite characters that I've read so far this year.
No clues about the story from me. You just gotta read it for yourself. The author had me thinking the story was gonna go one way and then bam it was going another way. The twists kept coming and had me in the edge of my seat.
I'm so looking forward to reading more from this author.
