Bosch rides again
13 November 2017
Michael Connelly is the master of the stories involving two kinds of truth. His books have the murder investigation and the accompanying story involves the background political wrangling intertwined. He is successful in solving both though the latter sometimes extends over several books. Both have surprising endings. Both cause injury to Bosch physically and ethically.
Here we have Bosch being interviewed by LAPD about a case from his past when he is interrupted by a double robbery homicide in San Fernando where he now does volunteer cold case work. The double murder is a straightforward investigation which soon lands Bosch in danger. The other becomes a menace that might cost Bosch his reputation and money. As well he takes on a cold case the disappearance of a mother that haunts his chief.
We soon have the involvement of his half brother lawyer Nicky Ballet and his old partner Jerry Edgar. The so we get all sorts of investigations and some courtroom drama.
As usual this is well researched and written. I had some little misgivings about the book bit it is still a top read. I took a little while to get into the story. It is also a little complicated sand busy. We also have Mickey Haller a a subset. There is also the com p location of joining his past and present. It seems that Michael is setting the scene for a further few books with Harry back in familiar ground.
Nonetheless another great Bosch novel. Maybe not the best but still way above other authors.
