1920s India. Perveen Mistry is Bombay’s first female solicitor. She is overseeing arrangements for the three widows of a Muslim businessman. Then, the house agent is murdered.
Sujarta Massey leads us on a merry dance through the lives and times of this period with great elan. The characters, the food, the clothes, the laws, the attitudes, the places, are described with great insight and clarity. It’s an exciting story, a compelling read, and obviously well researched. Top marks.
