Wonderful love story
30 April 2017
Karina Halle never fails to impress me. I have read many of her books and they all stay with me long after I've finished. 'Before I Ever Met You' is another poignant story about second chances and finding love where you least expect it. She has delivered an office romance that will completely enthrall readers as it did me. Her characterisations of Will and Jackie, her development of their romance, and her writing style will win readers over and make them fall in love with this unlikely couple. The fact is we all have baggage but there is no insta-fix like other books in this genre, it's real and their scars are raw but it makes this love story all the more special.
Will is a fantastic male lead. I loved that he was older and secure in himself as well as a sexy, sweet alpha. Jackie is equally a great female lead. She wants to make it on her own as a single mother and right the wrongs of her past. Their chemistry and attraction are off the charts but there was actual substance in their story which is what made it for me. The meeting, the attraction, and the getting to know you phase felt authentic, it is clear that this is more than just lust.
Told in both POVs, we get to know the characters well and their inner-dialogue proves how deep their feelings are and while their physical intimacy is heated there is no doubt there is real emotion in this relationship.
'I’m sorry , I want to say to him. I’m sorry I’m kind of crazy. I’m sorry that I might break your heart. I’m sorry I have problems that might burn this all to the ground. I’m sorry that I don’t think I’m ready for what your beautiful heart is giving me, and I don’t mean the gifts. But I don’t say any of that. “It’s beautiful,” I tell him, trying to keep the tears from my eyes. '
I loved the resolution to this story, and the way Karina Halle chose to set-up the conflict and have it play out worked well. The epilogue also just rounded everything off perfectly. Despite the typos, 'Before I Met You' is just wonderful. It’s fun while also having some angst. It’s romantic and steamy. 4.5 Stars from me.
