Real and raw and beautiful. This novel touched my heart somewhere deep inside. It explores this mess that we call life, facing love, grief and loss head-on. The author brilliantly weaves a complex tale, challenging Nakita and Nox with their greatest fears and giving the reader no choice but to be drawn in until they love the characters and live their lives with them. I felt every hurt, every hope, every tear and every triumph. I would warn the reader to choose an appropriate time to read this novel; to be prepared to laugh and cry with abandon as you are swept along. Nakita is the most interesting of organised, conservative characters I have ever ‘met’. Will is delightful and trying to describe Nox would not do him justice the way the author has done. The supporting characters have a life of their own, each playing a significant role. The twists in the story are believable and make an impact, touching the heart and challenging the beliefs we all have deep down. I would not normally read such a sensual novel and yet to be real; to acknowledge what life is like, it could not be any other way. The author was tasteful, yet didn’t hold back in drawing the reader into every thought and passion the characters experienced. There was language in the novel, yet when it was used, it fit. It was not overdone and was necessary to make the characters real. It was used whenever that was the only appropriate word to use to express the situation. This story will stay with me for a long time. To write like this, the author has obviously lived life to the full, experiencing its richness, its real, messy heartache and joy. A brilliant debut novel from this author!
I binge-read this book over a wet weekend and absolutely loved it. It is well written (in several places it made me cry!) and has characters that draw you in and a plot that keeps you guessing to the end. A good way for me to guage how good a book is, is for me to ask myself, "Would I read this again?" I would definitely read Black Ink Heart again.
I read this book over a 24 hour period – my first sitting ended at 2 in the morning and the next day I found myself hiding from my family because I just had to finish the book. I gasped, I smiled, and I cried – all before the end of chapter 3!! I loved all the characters, the intricate plot and the imagery created by the author’s beautiful writing. Every chapter took me on a wonderful journey but at no point did I know where we were heading. The story was so compelling it was difficult to find a moment to pause for coffee, food or other life essentials. It was a roller coaster of emotions and unexpected twists. Do yourself a favour and just read it. Of the dozens of books I have read this year “Black Ink Heart” has definitely been my favourite – so much so I read it a second time the next weekend. #noxrox
I really enjoyed this book. It is teasingly romantic and every page has you drawn in wanting more of the story between the two main characters. I can tell that the author has worked tirelessly to weave the story from the beginning to end. This story is touching, earthy, raw, innocent and sexy all in one.
I never read fiction as there is so many non fiction books I wish to read. The book came highly recommended and I made a one and only exception and purchased it. The book is extremely well written that easily catches your imagination and draws you in to the story and stirs up the emotions. The one difficulty I had with the book is actually putting it down. I look forward to the next book by this author
Through laughter, tears, shock and admiration my eyes stung with tiredness because I just could not put this book down! Nox, Nakita and Emmylou became part of my life while reading this novel and i couldnt wait to find out how it all ended ..... I would love to see his story played out on the big screen. Such an inspirational journey or sorrow, love and Destiny.
Not since 'fifty shades of grey' have I read a book with so much built up sexual tension, however this book had a more intriguing plot. Absolutely loved it, binge read the majority of it in one day. Looking forward to the next novel by this author.
