This book is real!!! It reminded me of why I love YA reads so much. They reach out to a time in life when young people are going through so many unavoidable things as they approach adulthood. Things they might have endured all their lives. Situations they might be experiencing for the first time. They approach subjects that reach out and grab your attention. They make you sit up and notice.
For me...for this book...it is something real. Kristen Kehoe took topics that hurt. However, her approach makes all the difference. She digs in and makes the reader feel what her characters are feeling. Characters who you have no choices but to love from the first chapter. It isn't about one character or two. It is about a group of young people and the trials in their lives. Their love, laughter, and pain.
“Pain exists everywhere—zip code and status can’t protect people from pain or fear.”
It is truth in a fictional setting with very real topics.
Thank you, Kristen Kehoe. This book touched my heart. I recommend this book to YA romance readers ... absolutely a must read!
