OMG Shanora Williams has gone and done it once again. 100 Proof was AMAZING! What would you do if you found out that the younger brother that you can't stand is marrying the one who got away? Your first love and only love. The woman whom had to leave you and shatter your heart in order for you to get your life in order and make a change. Marley, HIS Marley. It's been two and half years since the last time Vin saw Marley. Now Vin is sober and working on finally opening the club with his pal Zay. He spoke to Marley about it all the time. He was getting his life back on track and wanted Marley to be a part of it. But that dream was put on hold when Vin found Marley standing beside his brother with a diamond on her finger. He didn't care, he wasn't going to let THE ONE get away again. He would have to make Marley see what a mistake it was to marry his brother. Marley has had a pretty horrible life. When she met Vin, he brought a light into her life that she lacked. He was her escape, her everything. When a tragic incident took the life of a close friend, both Marley and Vin's lives spiraled out of control. Vin was getting worse with the drugs and drinking and it was too much for Marley because he was becoming a lot like her father. However she stood by his side when he decided to go into rehab. When Marley realized he was in rehab for other reasons, she knew it was the last straw and Vin would never change. She didn't want that kind of life, it was what she came from. Leaving Vin was the hardest thing she had to do, but she had to do it and start a new life. A new life that led her to another man with many of his own dark secrets. Did Marley sell her soul to the devil? Once Marley saw Vin, feelings started to reemerge. As hard as she tried to deny him, deep down she knew she couldn't. This was Vin, HER VIN. The chemistry between Marley and Vin was off the hook. There was this rawness and sexiness but all innocents between them. I could't get enough of them. Shanora Williams has me on a rollercoaster of emotions throughout the book. Well done once again Shanora, well done!
I really really enjoyed this book. The writing I thought was impeccable and exceptionally good, but I did find the story a little slow at times when I thought it could of been revved up to the max especially considering the fantastic characters in this story and the connection and chemistry they shared.
Marley goes out with Vin - they connected immediately when they met, they took chances and loved to party hard with drink and drugs and for Vin who drank to the excess a little too much it starts to cause problems in their relationship. At a last ditch attempt Vin goes into rehab to try to keep his relationship with Marley together; but it's all a little too much too late for Marley and she tells Vin she can't be with him any longer and walks out of his life. Fast forward nearly three years later -----
When he comes out of rehab he once again pursues his dream of getting his own nightclub up and running with his long term best friend Zay, things are good but he still misses Marley so much. She is always been in his heart and in his head, but he is determined to put his life back on the right track. When he gets a phone call from his A***hole of a brother asking him to attend his engagement party and to be his best man - Vin is intrigued as this is all very sudden and although he doesn't get along with his brother, he wants to please his mother whom he loves very much. What he doesn't expect to find when he goes to the party is the girl who walked away from him, the girl who consumed his whole world and who he still loves - just about to marry his brother !!! He is shocked beyond belief and so is Marley when she see's him, and so the angst between the two of them shoots up sky high and we are taken on a journey with them through all their highs and the lows and it is really interesting to see what happens to these two people and those who surround them.
I LOVED Vin. He is damaged, and vulnerable but has so much love inside of him and he just melts your heart the more you read about him, I cheered him on all the way through this book - a fantastic character. Marley was frustrating - I know why she was doing what she was doing and her reasons for doing it, but I didn't really like her for it to be honest. I did like the spark and fire inside of her and she did redeem herself further along the book. There is passion, angst, love, hate and so many emotions that the reader discovers in this story to make your heart beat that little bit faster.
A definite page turner and I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen to these intriguing characters. Well worth the read !!!
This as my first read from this author and definitely won't be my last. This book is well written, well edited and has a fantastic cover. All big ticks for me. Vinny and Marley have a tumultuous relationship. Both running from demons with the help of drugs and alcohol, it's not a healthy place for either of them. Years later they cross paths & it's heartbreaking. This story has plenty of great dialogue, action, drama, family betrayals and seriously hot chemistry. Ultimately though it's a love story. I don't want to say too much because I don't want to spoil it, but I would definitely recommend this book. I received an ARC of this book.
