I really enjoyed this - it had some concepts that were fun together with great surrounding characters.
The principle character is a completely likeable, hip, contemporary girl with friends to match her outgoing character. Her best friend is as camp as a row of tents and larger than life with his flouncing, vivacious persona. As BFFs, they make a match made in heaven providing sensational comic relief when things get touch. There's plenty of kickass action that keeps the pace going at a good clip with a side dose of romance, but this is in no way invasive enough to detract for the central plot.
The innovation is good, and you need to read a lot to find comparable situations although I haven't come across exactly this type of thing - and I do read a lot of pnr.
