This book is the first in the series and introduces the listener to all of the major players in the first few chapters. The prologue focuses on the two main characters and establishes their relationship. The story starts with action and this continues throughout the story. A tight knit group of friends, each with special skills, that have each other’s best interests at heart. If you like thrillers with strong, intelligent and resourceful characters, both men and women, then this book is worth looking at. There are great descriptions of the areas and action. The dialogue between the characters feels real.
Colt works for the CIA, and is still coming to terms with losing the woman he loved and now is trying to deal with one of his best friend's who is also trying to come to terms with losing his wife. However, Colt has heard rumours that his friend's wife might be alive and is going to check it out and see if the rumour is true. Skye is ex-CIA, as she had to fake her own death to prevent the man she loved from being killed, along with his friends and family. She has heard about an American woman being held by the cartel and further intel suggests it's one of Colt's best friends, so she goes in to rescue the woman.....
Great read, loved the action, characters and planning and of course, the end:)
Good characters with a great action story and saucey love story between MCs Colt and Skye. Look forward to the next book. If you love alpha males and super cool tough chicks then this is a great book for you.
Skye Arevalo believed she did the right thing when she faked her death to protect the man she loves. But when Colt Stuart discovers she's alive after the kidnapping of his friend and her subsequent rescue of the lady doctor, Colt isn't about to let her go again, not until he has some answers. However, when she confesses how much trouble she's in to Colt, he's determined to do whatever it takes to keep her safe. Will their plan to take down the bad guy work, or will their second chance at happy ever after be ripped away?
Ms. Reus always pens such fantastic romantic suspense, and I've got to say that this story opens this series brilliantly with the way it introduced the main and secondary characters and shows just how tight of a bond the hero shares with his friends. They would do anything for each other, which is proven with how this story ends and how they band together to support the woman their friend loves in her time of need. The way this story started had me loving this couple immediately, as they had a tight bond as partners and the way they tease each other had me smiling, because Skye certainly knows how to get a rise out of Colt since she isn't afraid to say whatever is on her mind.
As for the dialogue, it was told from various points-of-views, which frustrated me at times because I was so wrapped up in the main characters that all I wanted was to discover more about them. Yet, in the end, I found the points-of-view of the various secondary characters was necessary, especially when it came to the relationship between the woman the heroine helped escape and the woman's partner. Moreover, the dialogue took me on a wild ride that was action-packed and pulse-pounding, as the heroine is impulsive and knows how to make decisions on the fly if things go awry in her plans. Will she be able to keep the person she's rescued safe?
Both the main characters were absolutely enjoyable, and I loved their growing relationship both in the past and now. Skye is resilient, brave and I liked that she didn't give up on getting her life back and taking down the person that was coming after her because of what she did. Also, the heroine knows she needs to win back Colt's trust, which isn't easy unless she's willing to reveal why she did what she did in faking her death. Will she tell him the truth? Will Colt be able to help? Yet, what I liked most about the heroine is that even though she's so independent and determined to go it alone, I liked that she accepted help because she needed it.
While Colt, he was a wonderful hero full of confidence and determination to do everything in his power to help his grieving friend with the information he's received and then help the heroine with her problem that's keeping them apart. I also liked that he didn't push the heroine too far so she shut down on him, even though he was desperate for information only she could give him when it came to why she faked her own death. Did she not trust him enough to be able to help her? Will he agree that she did what she did for the right reasons? Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero is the tight bond he shares with his friends and how they rally around him to help bring an end to the person determined to hurt the heroine. Besides, with what the heroine did in helping the good doctor escape, she's made friends for life whether she wants them or not.
Overall, Ms. Reus has penned a wonderful romantic suspense in this book, which had the right balance of suspense and romance that kept me immersed in the story and determined to discover how the hero would handle the betrayal of someone he should be able to trust; and how far he was willing to go to keep the heroine safe and make certain she was in his life for years to come. The way this story ended had me on the edge-of-my-seat due to the danger these two faced, but left me believing the hero made the right choice with what he did in making sure the heroine was safe forever. However, what I liked most about the ending was the choices the hero made and his suggestion about what he and the others should do. Certainly, they'd be good at helping people the way they've decided to. I would recommend Resurrection by Katie Reus, if you enjoy romantic suspense, the second chance romance trope or books by authors Kaylea Cross, Cristin Harber, Lynn Raye Harris or Susan Stoker.
