This story broke my heart!!! What they all went through to get where they ended up, just broke my heart. A chance meeting at the grocery store when he never goes out of the house, he meets her. Alex and Gwen just keep getting thrown into each other paths. Alex never leaves the cabin, and Gwen has to keep on moving for the kids. One snowy day, Gwen is taking the kids back home, and she gets into an accident. Who shows up at the car to help her out, even though he doesn't want to? Alex. That's right! They get snowed in on the mountain with Alex in the cabin. He's not been around kids that much so with the two that Gwen have is so out of his comfort zone. But with Kelsey having Mutism, he hears her at night saying her prayers. Then one fateful night, she actually talks to Alex directly. Not any one else. Alex is surprised that she felt comfy enough to come to him to talk for the first time. Gwen misses her little girl, but lets her be her. She has Daniel her son to think about as well. Alex is grieving and fighting his own demons. Can this family that has fallen into his lap help him? Can all four of them grieve and be able to have a start over? Christmas comes around, and Gwen and the kids are able to get back to their house, but Alex has closed himself off again. Can the visit Gwen pays Alex open him up again? The kids and the doggy Alex has have an breakable bond, and Gwen knows just what to get them for Christmas to help them. A puppy from Alex's dog. I really enjoyed the storyline, and everything the happened in the book. Yes it's emotional, it'll break your heart, but it'll also piece it back together!
What an amazing book this was to experience, Alex Grayson never fails to disappoint me when I pick up one of her books, she is an amazing author with a fantastic imagination that always astounds me. Everything about this book was perfect.
Gwen has had a tragedy in her life, she needs a new start for herself and her children especially, so she moves to Cat Valley in Colorado for a fresh start hoping to begin the long road to recovery in their minds and their hearts.
Alexander is a broken man who is fraught with guilt from a devastating loss that is slowly killing him; wrapping itself around his heart squeezing any light or love from it that was once there. He is slowly bleeding out so he shuts himself and his emotions away from the outside world and keeps himself to himself in his little cabin.
When by chance he meets Gwen and her children, together they find solace in the grief and pain they share, struggling to find a way to cope they recognise that in each other they have some sort of connection, a pull that keeps them tethered together even when apart. Gwen quickly realises that Alexander's pain is riveted so much deeper than hers is, but at least she has her children to focus on whereas Alexander has no one at all.
This book was beautifully written. The emotions were hard to digest at times because there was so many of them to deal with; guilt, anger, pain, loss but always there was a feeling of hope, of redemption of love and loyalty. I was totally enthralled from beginning to the end of this book and I encourage every reader to go one click now !!!
Whispered Prayers of a Girl is absolutely outstanding! It's officially my top read for 2017 so far. If you like gut-wrenching, emotional stories, then you will love this book, too!
The characters were complex and believable; I quickly became invested in their lives. Alexander reminded me of my best friend, and Gwen's daughter Kelsey reminded me of my own daughter. Needless to say, they will stick with me a very long time. "A lonely man, a widowed woman, a carefree boy, and a broken girl..." I fell in love with all four of them.
The plot was steady and kept me reading straight through. I couldn't put the book down! They were all so strong but so broken...making them perfect for each other. I wanted to shake Alexander sometimes for pushing Gwen and her children away. I just had to keep reading to find out how their story would play out.
This was my first book by Alex Grayson, but it definitely won't be my last! I can't wait to look for more books by this author!
I saw a post where the author made a plea before reading this and I agree you need lots and lots of tissues. This story was like poetry for the soul, every look and word conveyed so much emotion you could feel the pain seeping from the page. Every character that we meet has suffered unimaginable pain and loss and when meet you just know fate has played a part in bringing then together because they are exact what each other needs. I'm not sure who I loved the most but Kelsey is a little girl who stole my heart completely she manages to tell her story whilst speaking very little. Daniel her brother is a warm and sunny boy who is crying out for a man in his life. Alexander is a tortured man who has slowly cut himself off from life he is just going through the motions. Then we have Gwen who is the lynchpin that holds them all them together, she is a woman of great strength. This was a beautifully written story that touched my heart and will stay with me for a long time.
This is a beautiful love story about 2 people dealing with grief and helping each other overcome the darkness. The romance was not front and centre in this one. The daily events of Alexander trying to come to terms with the loss of his wife and daughter and Gwen and her 2 kids getting over the loss of their dad and husband. Author did a good job.
