Part two of the Bird and the Sword Chronicles - DO NOT read this book if you have not read the first book 'The Bird and the Sword'. Not only will you not understand what's happening, you will miss out on one of my favourite books ever.
In saying that, I had high expectations after reading the first novel and was readying myself to be disappointed, because how could you top the bird and the sword? Well guess what - The Queen and the Cure was definitely on par with the feel of the first book and I could not put it down.
In the Queen and the Cure, we get to see Kjell's story. Kjell was the king's bastard brother from the previous book and always intrigued me with his healing ways and his desire to hide it. Kjell is just cruising along in life and patrolling the kingdom and the other land's due to his position as Captain of the King's Guard. On his way to a small village where he'd heard rumours of discontent, he comes across a girl, Sasha who is barely alive and broken at the bottom of a cliff after being pushed off. Sasha has her own abilities and this is where the fun starts.
I fell in love with you in pieces, layer by layer, day by day, inch by inch..
See that quote right there? Magic. Amy Harmon has created a whole other world with these characters and this story. The writing is rich and decadent and just makes me want to devour the whole book in one sitting and wish for more and more and more!
Kjell is a brute of a man and we are used to seeing his typical warrior side and hiding his feelings, but Kjell gets his time to shine in this book and we really see his development, especially alongside Sasha. With some bombshells thrown in for good measure, this novel is romantic, diverse and just majestic! I want.. no, I NEED more.
'I remember. I remember everything. And everything has changed. But I have not forgotten how I feel about you.'
Absolutely amazing. Any Harmon has brought us back to the wonderfully magical world that we all fell in love with in The Bird and The Sword. Kjell and Sasha's story was written so amazingly well that you didn't want it to end. From the very beginning you could see that their love for each other was going to an epic journey. The epilogue was amazing and I can't wait to hear who's next!! Highly recommend to all romance readers.
A beautiful story, amazing characters and Amy Harmon's incredible storytelling make this book one of my all time favourites! I thought the bird and the sword was amazing but the queen and the cure is just as good if not better. If you like fantasy, romance and adventure then this one's for you. I'll go and nurse my book hangover now.
This series is amazing. The bird and the sword and the queen and the cure are the types of books you read, sigh and then turn to page one and read again!!! They are that good!! Amy is on my 1-click list. Brilliant author!!
I love (almost) all of Ms Harmon's stories - her telling and spinning of tales talents are vast! It was good to read Kjell's story and I was curious how it would all come good in the end. I look forward to her next book.
This deserves more than just 5 stars. I am such a huge, huge fan of Ms Harmon's writing. Absolutely rivoted to the plot and I was so moved by the poetry of her writing, the integrity and strength of her characters. I only have love for this book.
