Best read as a series.

I enjoyed the witty repartee of the main characters and stuck with the book to the end of the series. I say book because i believe it would have been better as one book. The way it was structured would have left me very annoyed at the end of the first three, since there were so many loose ends. I would not have bought tbe rest separately, since that kind of approach really bothers me.
It also meant there was a lot of repetition of introducing characters in each book, often with the same descriptions word for word. Though the descriptions were often witty or well written, it was, nonetheless irritating. I would have preferred to see a clearer focus on the central characters, with greater depth of insight into the family's connection to Maggie's real father unfolding at the end. The explanation given that her parents were just young and foolish tells the reader nothing and is very unsatisfying.
So potentially a good book, but needs a good trim anfd tidy to sharpen its focus and clarify relational dynamics of key characters.
