The Negotiator by Avery Flynn was a fantastic read in the RomCom genre - often a difficult category to pull off. Yes, it's another 'rich guy - poor young woman - fake fiancé - opposites attract - man meets his match' contemporary love story...but, it is a real cracker! The scenario is; rich guy needs a buffer to deflect his mother's constant attempts to pair him with a line of marriageable socialites. But the buffer job quickly morphs into a secret 'engagement' contract. Clover (Jane) Lee is a beautiful, sexy, funny, free spirited woman who is no one's fool and she speaks her mind. Handsome Sawyer is a 100% hardnosed business man who is also a little cold and devious (with a soft side and his own wicked sense of humour). He sees the big picture, but not the important, smaller details. Sawyer is a master negotiator in the construction game. However, he's often outsmarted by Clover, a savvy wheeler dealer in her own right. The couple's chemistry crackles right from the start and their feelings grow, but along the way there's conflict and challenges to meet. The major question is: Can they survive the consequences of their fake situation and move towards a real relationship? The feel of The Negotiator is clever, fast, flirty, steamy and humourous with a touch of drama. Avery has the ability to connect her gorgeous characters to readers completely and she's supplied a wonderful way to escape the real world for a while. I absolutely loved it!
I haven't read a good romcom in awhile and I am so glad I found this one! I loved the story and the characters especially the relationship between Sawyer and Clover. This was my first book of Avery's, can't wait to read more now.
