I found this book to be inspirational. Each chapter is broken down into case studies regarding different children. I was able to recognise similar children which I work with and am currently studying. I will highly recommend this book to anyone working with children. It will give you a much-needed window into traumatised children.
I enjoyed reading this book as I have recently began doing respite care for foyer carers. The stories give you a better understanding of why children who have suffered trauma act in the way they do. Although I did find it odd that the book title was only converted very minimal.
I cannot recommended the reading of this book to everyone. I have a much richer understanding of what it is to be human now, as well as a much clearer understanding of the human brain - it’s development, fragility and beauty.
This is a must read for anyone who works or lives with someone who has suffered trauma. The author focusses on childhood trauma and the impact on brain development and subsequent behavioral issues. This is a book of hope and the power of a loving relationships to ultimately assist in the healing from the depths of despair.
Excellent insight to the effects of childhood neglect / trauma on the development of a child / adults personality / behaviours / thoughts and relationship to the world around them. Should be a compulsory text for all persons entering a counselling / mental health / child care / teaching based employment.
I found this book to be very readable, as well as being very informative about the impact of trauma to children. The author models excellent practice in his well-described interactions with children, which provides the reader with practical ways to establish trusting and therapeutic relationships with traumatised children. Excellent book!
As a youth worker I attended a training where this book was recommended. Amazing insight into some of these young peoples lives. Very relatable to my work working with young people and how much trauma can affect someone.
