This was one of the best entries in a outstanding D&D style series. Magical swords, sieges, pitched battles against implacable foes and a test of personal courage. One of Ridmark's most annoying traits has been his self-destructive streek. This character flaw built up over the previous books acts as a major plot arc. Something Moeller does incredibly well is foreshadowing, readers of this and the Ghosts series can attest. Secondary characters also get a chance to shine. With only one main sequence novel to come I'm left hoping that another series will be forthcoming set in the same world.
