Great suspense. Descriptions put the reader at the scene. Great insight into the adjustments military personnel and working dogs have to make and how it affects people and dogs alike. The author gives the reader a realistic understanding of a woman’s struggle in a male dominated job and the importance of success on a first job. Great story about a damaged hero who finds himself again, a canine who does the same, and a determined woman who wants to be good at her job and loves them both.
I quite enjoyed this story, but there were a few things that were a little hard to credit. Kujo had cut himself off from the world for three years, but fell in love in three days with the first woman he met, despite thinking that reconnecting with people was likely to be very difficult for him. Molly worked for the FBI, but not once did we find out what her job actually was other than she had never done fieldwork. And yet she's out in the field, unsupported, underprepared. And Molly's injuries, from which she "almost died", didn't stop her from doing anything physical for more than two days.
