Mister Romance is by new-to-me author Leisa Rayven. This book was listed a few times in a book recommendation thread on another site for being a slow burn romance. The other category was enemies to lovers, but that wasn't really the case here, but it was certainly a slow, but oh so hot, burn…..
The premise of this book grabbed my attention from the first. An escort that fulfils the romantic fantasies of women, who can afford him, by taking them out on dates that are just out of this world. A big plus was that his services were not physically sexual, it is all role-playing with nothing more than possibly a kiss or a not so intimate touch. It’s all about making a woman feel desired and special, rather than the physical. I’ll admit the thought of a ‘full service’ escort as a romantic lead squicks me a bit. Simply because I don’t think I’d ever go there. The only exception is Julian from LH Cosway’s Fauxmance, but even that is a special case because well, I don’t want to spoil anything, just accept my advice that if you haven’t read Cosway’s Showmance & Fauxmance you don’t know what you are missing!
Ok, back on point…. So my expectations were for a good read and a really interesting story. Perhaps some laughs, definitely some angst, and I knew (hoped) it would be hot, but basically a light and ‘feel good’ read. I could not have been more wrong! Mister Romance is a cerebrally sensual exploration of romance and the human condition. I haven’t been this mentally and emotionally seduced by a new book in a long time!! There is not much actual sex, apart from a bit of a dry hump, nothing happens until the last 25% of the novel, but you know what? I didn’t even notice! For me, it felt like the characters were going at it for the entire book. This author didn't need the physical act to make it one of the hottest stories I've read in a long time.
Mister Romance resonated with me on so many levels. I could empathise with Eden and recognised a lot of myself in her and her situation; and as for Max whose heart wouldn’t bleed for him? Special mention goes to Moby. That scene on Nannabeth’s roof with him and Max doing pushups and laps around the pool – cuteness overload!!
It takes a special skill to write a book such as this; to make a story so emotionally intense without making it heavy or depressing. It is being able to blend the almost exhaustively passionate and emotional scenes with a dash of humour, and wonderful secondary characters that allow the story to lighten in a smooth and natural way. The result is a rollercoaster of sensation, but one that doesn’t leave you feeling emotionally spent. I’ve only come across a few authors over the years that can successfully do this, but when it is done well, it’s an experience that can sometimes change you on some level, but at the very least it’s one heck of a ride!
Mister Romance met my initial expectations and then threw them out the window as it went beyond anything I could have predicted. This was my first Leisa Rayven book, but if her others are anything like Mister Romance, it certainly won’t be my last!
I put off reading this as I thought it was just some chick lit or rom com but how wrong I was. Underneath it all is a wonderful endearing tale of a cynical journo & a reformed bad boy. Both have issues relating to their families. Oh Max! wow ! No wonder the women fell for you. I loved his chameleon like persona but clearly there was someone who broke through it. Eden such a jaded person for one so young. Layer by layer Eden dug into Max's past & like her we are given glimpses of his life. Nannabeth was sweet & I loved her sister Ashe.
What can I say?! I fell in love with Leisa Rayven's writing when I read the starcrossed series but Mister Romance just blew me away!!
Eden is a romance sceptic whose nip-notch journalist degree is being wasted as she writes click-bait pieces for a failing news site. What she needs is a big story - and the rumours of Mister Romance, a male escort who fulfills the romantic fantasies of New York's richest socialites, sounds too intriguing to pass up.
Unfortunately Wden didn't count on the man behind Mister Romance - Max....
I can't say more without spoiling what is an incredible story that I couldn't put down. There was laugh out loud moments, so much swooning, copious amounts of sexual tension and a fabulous story about love and romance.
Put Mister Romance on you're must read list - you won't regret it!!
Woohoo a new book from Leisa Rayven, let me at it!
Mister Romance could so easily have been one of those cliche books where the lovelies fight over the story then fall in love. But this is different. Mister Romance, the sexy as sin Max Riley, goes along with the expose story... with some conditions.
He is a man of mystery, you never know who he is going to be.
Enter Eden, the non-romantic, cynical journalist who is like a dog with a bone, needing to know all about the man who has the rich ladies of Manhattan all atwitter.
I freaking love everything about Max - no matter who he is. There is just something about the guy that you can't help falling for.
This book was just amazing. I couldn't put it down, I just had to know what shenanigans would ensue next.
I adored our lovelies ,their flaws made them all the more loveable.
My emotions were going up and down with this book. I loved it. I loved the angst of it but I was sceptical. I was constantly waiting for the big reveal. And some of it just felt off. Unexplained. I was a cynic just like Eden. And my mind was always telling me something is seriously wrong with Max. I still gave it 5 stars. I will always give 5 stars if a book makes me feel.
This is the first story ive read from this author and il definitely look into her other books. What a fantastic read. The dialogue was witty but also made me feel teary at times when the characters got into some of the deep stuff and i loved both of the MC's. I thought the premise of the story was well executed and the authors writing had me invested and interested in both character's wellbeing. There was a few spelling mistakes and missing words but its easy to overlook. I would have liked dipping a bit more into Max's past but its satisfying enough. I highly recommend this book.
Leisa Rayven's characters are so likeable, even if they're broken, messed up and complicated. There are surprise twists in this one that keep you reading addictively right to the end. The witty, sexy banter between her characters is brilliant and her plot twists and turns make every story exciting. I'm laughing one minute, fanning myself while I blush, and then crying the next! Talk about an emotional rollercoaster!
I really enjoyed this one. Different to the usual 'love story' novels out there at the moment. It was almost like a mystery unraveling and kept me on the edge. I just wished the author had triple checked all the spelling. I found myself having to re read over some sentences because I couldn't understand what was being said, due to missing words and spelling mistakes. Other than that, I loved it!
This was such a refreshing original read... loved the storyline and banter and I think Max has to be one of my favourite ever book boyfriends!! And that's saying a lot....! Best story I have read in a very long time and is towards the top of my favourites list
Wow!!!!! Epic book hangover!!! 5 Stars isn’t enough for this book! I loved everything about this story - it was PERFECTION with a healthy dose of swoon in the form of one very edible Max Riley!! Gah!!!! I totally fell in love with Max and the characters he played! He was oh so delectable, caring, sweet and had the biggest heart! And Eden was such a great heroine - she was so strong willed yet underneath her tough exterior lay a very fragile woman, afraid of giving her heart away. And the chemistry between Max and Eden was so raw, primal and intense!!! It sizzled off the pages!!!
Leisa Rayven’s addictive narrative had me glued to the pages and I couldn’t put it down! Such a unique story and all the secondary characters also added so much to this amazing story! I can’t wait for the next book in this Masters of Love series!
