Maybe I'm a philistine or just not very smart - but the extensive references to philosophy were a little irritating. Her thesis is interesting and she makes a reasonably compelling, if not slightly overwrought case. Would argue that there's a much more clear and present danger to democracy posed by large multi-national investment banks, and the orthodoxy of unfettered neo-liberalism.
This book is a brick. Zuboff offers an exhaustive analysis of 'surveillance capitalism', relentlessly peeling back the logic of Google and Facebook — of any business built on the acquisition of ever more data. It's a tour de force. A brick to hurl through windows.
