After several months forcing myself to finish books that leave me numb, I'm so happy I've found a new author whose storytelling and writing "smarts" puts her in the same treasured league as Penny Reid and Mariana Zapata. Great characters, with nicely woven plots and the rarest sort of HEA ... Namely one that's neither cringe-worthy cheese nor so sickly sweet I immediately book an appointment with my dentist! P. Dangelico has delivered a truly awesome read with this one, and now I can't wait to see what she's done with her other books.
I have just finished Wrecking Ball (my first P Dangelico book) and I loved it. I am a bit of a sports romance junkie and this one really hit the spot for me. P Dangelico has given us a truly likeable (and loveable) leading man and lady and a storyline that is well fleshed out and written. Both characters have overcome major setbacks/upheavals in their lives and moving forward has meant having to deal with these issues and their storylines are handled with sincerity by the author. There is also an interesting and funny support cast of characters that we are introduced to and who will, I am sure, get their own stories as time goes by and if they are half as good as Cam & Cal, I cannot wait!
Very enjoyable CR about an enigmatic but hot footballer and his developing relationship with the teacher who is home-schooling his nephew. At first they have lots of clashes, but as time goes on they form a friendship that eventually turns into love. Both Cam and Cal have had problem relationships in their pasts that have affected them for a long time, but this is dealt with well and their relationship is quite convincing. The inclusion of a 10-year-old boy as one of the characters is also done well. And there were quite a few funny lines and zingers through the book.
This book is a slow-build. It all happens gradually, so if you like books where people jump into bed right at the start, maybe this one isn't for you. But I liked the way things built up gradually and they got to know each other over time and really cared for each other.
Comparisons have already been drawn between this book and Mariana Zapata's The Wall of Winnipeg and Me. I have to agree. There are lots of similarities, but there are also plenty of differences, and I never felt like it was just a copy of Zapata. I fully enjoyed both books. I certainly think if you enjoyed WoW you will probably like this too. Overall I look forward to the next book in this series.
This was an enjoyable read that had me giggling and laughing out loud at Cam's inner dialogue and commentary. It touched on complex subjects that we can face in life without getting to bogged down in angst. We got to know the characters as we followed the realistic slow burn of the relationship, which I preferred to insta love. They both had baggage to deal with and it felt like a natural progression as they got to know each other. I also found it so refreshing that the male lead character wasn't a manwhore. I'm a fan of epilogues in stories and I found myself wanting to know more when I finished the book, immediately looking to see if the next book in the series had been released.
Loved, loved, loved this book. Slow burn with well developed characters. Cam was my b*tch! She was funny, sweet, strong yet, vulnerable when needed. And oh so loyal. Calvin was our hero, and what a hero! A man of few words. Arrogant and stubborn. But deep down, hurt and scared of being screwed over again. He’s possessive and a little controlling, but when he starts to open up, he’s so sweet! Read it and the others in this series. You won’t regret it. 😘
A really enjoyable read - it didn't feel like a typical romance novel but had more of a 'Wall of Winnipeg Vibe' by Mariana Zapata. There was something about Calvin that was really likeable, even though he wasn't that nice to begin with. Cam on the other hand, was easy to like and I found I wanted her to find happiness after everything she had been through. The characters gelled however and I couldn't put the book down - it was sweet, romantic and not cheesy - perfect combination for me.
