This author is pure gold. Aileen is a reluctant vampire, struggling to earn a nocturnal living, whilst holding on to her indepenence, instead of being forced into the 'safety' of a clan for the next 100 years. Liam is the vampires' Enforcer. As his title suggests, he investigates V crimes and enforces their laws. He also believes the unclaimed, largely ignorant (on the supernatural world), baby vamp, falls under his responsibilites - whether she likes it or not. How best to keep an eye on her and do his job at the same time? Hire her to help him resolve his current project. Like most excellent books in this genre, the lead lady is strong, capable, stubborn and has a good heart. Have her push against a hero, who is fairly arrogant, protective, even manipulative, but ensure to add a sense of humor and a soft spot for our girl. The fun part is each one thinking they are in charge. I think the hardest characters for authors to get right are the friends and family. Ms White never makes them too annoying or insipid. I will happily recommend any of TA White's books to anyone who enjoys a light-hearted, fast paced, slow-burn romance.
I loved this story. It has a sassy and sarcastic female character who is stubborn and has the amazing ability to find trouble everywhere she goes. The storyline grabbed my attention and kept it throughout the book. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.
