This is one of the side stories in the Empire's Corps series. It was a interesting look at another facete of the collapse of the empire and what happens to a world not ready for the aftermath. The topics covered in this book are familiar to anyone who has followed the immigrant crisis across the world. As such, it wasn't as enjoyable as other books in the series for me. No one likes a Casandra. I just hope the ending in real life is as simple.
Well, I am astounded ! It took a while to dawn on me that Mr Nuttall is writing about things that are happening today. The topic is immigration, and its effect on a happily isolated community. There's an afterword to the book that neatly encapsulates the issues, both pro and con, from a current day perspective. The characterization and plot is excellent and highly believable. Well done, Christopher. You have tackled a topic that too many people today don't want to talk about.
