No matter how many stories of love I read, I can honestly say nothing quite beats a good, solid rom com to make me swoon & chuckle as I fall through one funny scene after another. To find the right mix of characters, as well as a story line that can exploit the hilariously funny side of life & love – while pushing it to the limits of ‘OMG THEY DIDN’T JUST DO THAT’. I’m so flippin happy to say that Mr Rebound was allll that & a whole lot more. Noah, Morgan, Kate & the rest of the crew in this laugh out loud journey of karma, pulled me in, chewed me up & spat me like the top draw rom-com it was.
Noah. Good lord - I don’t care, I fell in love with this dog of a manwhore lol. I loved his ability to smirk the pants of the vulnerable woman that stick to him like the meow magnet he is, his totally freaky sense of humour which had me laughing from start to finish, & the big heart crammed with love that he didn’t even realise he had.
After one monumental mess up, up, he finds himself heading to LA in an attempt to leave his manwhore ways behind & hopefully start a new life. Moving in with his cousin Charlie & her brood, he really isn’t sure what his future is going to bring. Queue his new job & his first new client – Scarlett Winters - the hottest, sexiest, most desirable woman in Hollywood. Enter Charlie & her bestie Kate who dare him to leave his manwhore ways behind, & try the unmentionable – yup that dirty thing that makes him shudder – a relationship!!
Dare accepted & the challenge begins, except he really wasn’t prepared for the pecker block in the form of her assistant – Morgan Bentley. God this woman gets under his skin, makes steam shoot from his ears & pushes him to the edge of insanity. So why is it that he can’t stop thinking about her – like every damn minute. About how she would taste, how she would feel, how loud she would scream his name. For the first time ever his heart is hammering at the same speed as his manhood, which can only mean one thing – he is in unknown territory. The question is, how can he handle this sassy, moody wicked girl who blows hot & cold & makes his head & heart dizzy. Karma is a woman for sure!!
Morgan is gorgeous, though it took me a while to dig her. Her hot & cold made my head spin at times, but when she came into her own I loved her passionately. A family tie she tries to play down & a secret she tries to keep hidden, makes for a lot of baggage. Her headspace is all over & her moods more than match this, genuinely at times she really could take the B #1 medal. Yet I loved her smart mouth & the sass she gave Noah, how she never made it easy for him, even when he brought his panty melting charm out to play. From the very first moment she meets him she knows that she is doomed, finding herself powerless in the fight against what her heart craves. Karma is Cruel LOL.
OMG the laughs, the feels, the humour – the sheer entertainment value that Kat has written into this fantastic story are simply perfect! From covering my mouth to stifle the uncontrollable snorts from escaping, to wiping my eyes & runny nose on my sleeve, the entire journey was an amazing blend of emotions. It’s bumpy, cringe worthy, frustrating & beautiful. The fact that most of it was written in Noah’s pov really brought the humour to the fore, with some epic moments that I don’t think I will ever forget lol. Kat brought the unmentionable smack bam into your face & I embraced it like the freak I am.
My review wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t mention Kate – OMG I think I have found my book spirit lol. This girl brought so damn much to this story with her humour, smack talk & all round personality. Like the rest of the characters, each of their roles in this book were perfect & necessary, but for me, she was the thread that tied it all together in so many fantastic ways. Kat – I need more, so so much more!!
Seriously, if you love a rom com, or just looking for something that will get you giggling. This is the book for you.
