It is difficult to know what to make of Tim at times. For those of us who bought and relied on some of the great technical books he helped bring into life back when we read everything on paper, he remains something of a hero, but his ideas sometimes exist in the lingering odd environment of the reviewer rather than the writer. For some reason I sometimes find myself repeating the "exit from Silicon Valley" phrase, "The Venture Capitalist is not your friend" as I read his work. I don't really think the future is going to be made by svelte forty year-olds sitting behind desks of dark glass and polished aluminium, nor by the hordes obsessing over social media. I think it gets made by tinkerers, and not the ones (mostly) who subscribe to Make, either. But, as always, he is certainly worth reading.
