Next up we had Brawn who is a fairly newish character and part of the New Species council, I really loved Brawn and thought he was actually a bit of a sweetie in a alpha protective way. Some of his comments melted my heart a little. I didn't mind Beeca and can understand some of her decisions but others left me a little baffled. This one was full of misunderstandings and lack of communication between the H and h but once its all resolved made for a nice HEA. I thought Becca's Dad got off lightly for his parts in all the misunderstandings. Loved seeing all the previously mentioned characters like Breeze and Justice and the new ones were intriguing. Overall a great addition to the series and I look forward to the next one.
This is one of the best of this fun series about hot men made in a laboratory. It balances action and erotica to make an entertaining story with sizzling bits. It’s about Becca, the daughter of a military control freak and Brawn a laboratory made man with cat DNA. When they are kidnapped by evil scientists for breeding experiments a bond develops between the two, but is it a real bond or just the result of being forced together?
Unlike others in this series ‘Brawn’ does not feel repetitive. It’s brings a fresh lens to the themes of surviving abuse, learning to trust after broken relationships and racial/species prejudice. There are also some funny moments to relieve the tense drama. Highly recommended escapism.
I love rereading this series and do so often. They are just as enjoyable no matter how many times you read them. This was a great story but also very sad as we see firsthand the type of treatment New Species were and some still are, subjected too. Brawn does not interact with humans and believes human females are not strong enough to be with sexually. When they are kidnapped he is forced into close proximity with Becca which breaks down his defences. Becca falls for Brawn at first sight but her father is a very controlling man and also a top military officer working with New Species. When Becca and Brawn are saved after being kidnapped her father interferes which forces Becca to have to deal with a problem on her own. I do not want to give anything away but I reread this series often and this is one of my favourite books. I love the way Brawn is goaded into acting by his friends to claim Becca. Such male behaviour. I have reviewed these books previously but there has been a problem with reviews disappearing. I understand how important reviews are for authors and as it is no hardship to read them once again, I am writing reviews as I work through the series.
Brawn is assigned to the task force and he is determined to make a good impression so he’ll just have to keep his hands off Becca no matter how attracted they are to each other but all good intentions go to hell when they are kidnapped in this emotionally gripping paranormal romance.
A steady to fast paced plot keeps readers on their toes with suspense and passion as Brawn and Becca’s complex relationship unfolds. Being kidnapped was probably the easiest part of their relationship and the reader can’t help but get caught up in their story as they try to work through an abundance of issues that complicates things and keeps this couple tied up in knots. The chemistry between them is undeniable, (no matter how either tries to fight it) and the sex scenes are scorching hot adding lots of spice to the story.
There is never a dull moment in the story as the well written scenes ensure that the reader has to read every last detail. Spine tingling tension builds throughout the relationship with lots of excitement and sparks and surprising twists to keep the reader guessing. Becca and Brawn capture the heart and really grab the readers and ensure that they are emotionally involved in their story as both of their pasts cause emotional turmoil and when they are kidnapped, Becca gets an up front and personal look at part of what the New Species life consisted of before they were freed.
I love this series as every story ensures that the reader gets caught up in it, the intriguing characters always wins part of my heart and I continuously want to know what happens next and of course this one is no different and while you could read the books as a stand-alone and really enjoy it, I think it is best read in order to get the full impact of world that these characters inhabit.
