I was once told by a Tongan Whale Man - 'Be in the heart - do not lead from the heart'. When we look back on Australia Day 1788 there is only one way to trek and that is the Dreaming Path of the Heart. Stan Grant allows the reader to be present in the heart all the way to the last leaf of his journey.
Australia Day is in a deep sense a 'Welcome to Country'. Imagine the day of Reconciliation when the First Peoples are recognised in the Constitution being the 'Welcome to Country' on the 26th January. Imagine being a new migrant taking the oath to Australian citizenship and receiving that gift firstly from a First Nation person whose Peoples have walked this country for over 60,000 years and then a second welcome from the Government representative of the day. Dreaming Forever - Forever Dreaming. I recommend this amazing book 'Australia Day' A Gift from the Heart of the Journey into this ancient land. It is the space-time to lead from the heart.
Thoughtful. Personal. Real. Stan Grant imagines a future that includes a place and identity for all of us who call this ancient continent home - gained not without struggle, not without anger and pain, but always driven by hope. His thoughts on a “declaration of country” written on monuments and recited by school children are a gift I hope we act on.
Stan Grant is a great thinker! He has a mixed background and that has made him extremely well qualified to write on this topic, which he has considered from every angle. This book is well written and well researched!
