This is the third of what promises to be a lengthy series by Joy Ellis who is fast becoming one of my favourite detective writers. The characters are developing nicely and the atmosphere in the Fens is beautifully described, the plot in all books is very believable and gripping.
DCI Nikki Galena and her sergeant Joseph Easter are back again with their team. It makes a refreshing change that here we have a normal police woman, who's the boss and whilst feisty (she comes out fighting for her own sanity and the safety of her team) she's not drowning in depression or prescription drugs/alcohol as other detectives in this genre often are portrayed.)
There are many twists and turns in the plot as we try to work out what is going on in this incredibly fast paced thriller crime novel. The book starts with a death, the victim was guarded however by a highly sophisticated security system and there is no apparent entry into or out of the building. Evidence points to police revenge, especially as the police's arch enemy has been sighted locally but nothing is as it seems....
Even though the 3rd book in the series each book can stand alone, as without having read the others and you would know what is happening and still enjoy it. That being said knowing the back stories gives a better reading experience and I am particularly enjoying the character development.
This is a great story full of suspense with twists and turns from start to finish. I am looking forward to more Nikki and Joseph adventures, as always, I was gripped all the way through. 5 Stars - This was yet another Thrilling read.
