This book is a roller coaster, a cat and mouse frustrating love story that leaves you both screaming and gushing at the book in equal parts. Totally fell in love with the characters, especially the non main characters such as Brendan, Brian and Maddie.
I found myself giggling in parts of this book, Jodi’s style of writing is so naturally literal that it felt like I was standing in the room witnessing the scenes of the book. I loved the references to the Bastard (book 1) main characters who were delicately interwoven in small amounts in this book.
Not many books suck me in or grip me with emotion but I absolutely love love loved this book and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone young or old!
Brilliant, amazing and oh so talented, Jodi Perry is an author to watch out for!!
Absolutely adored this book from start to finish. It was the type of book that I couldn't wait to pick up and read again. The author writes in such a easy way and knows how to keep the reader interested.
This is Jax and Candace's story and what a beautiful one it was. Although some parts I found heartbreaking for them, it was a beautiful story to read. Best friends since kids, they both hold a special place for the other in their hearts, although they fail to mention to one another how they truly feel about each other. Love, laughter, heartache plus many more is experienced in this book. I am ashamed to say that this is the first book of J L Perrys that I've read but it most certainly won't be the last.
This is another great read by J L Perry. Jax follows the story of Jaxon Albright, who we met in Perrys previous book Bastard. Jax is the son of a politician and he’s dad, Malcolm, always wanted him to follow in his footsteps and become a politician too. But he had other ideas, he’s Inked, he’s pierced and he runs his own Tattoo parlour in Sydney. Jax owes everything he is today to his childhood friend Candice. Like Jax, she’s different, she has the most amazing Pink hair. She’s the daughter of a single mother who refused to be like all the other girls. Their difference to everyone else is something that drew them together and she always encouraged Jax to follow his dreams. After years of not seeing each other Jax and Candice literally run into each other in the street and they start to spend time together. Candice has always been supportive of Jax and encourages him to follow his dreams. Jax realises he love Candice, always has, but there are secrets between the two of them. When these secrets come out there is major dramas, twists and turns. I really enjoyed this book as we got to see more of the other characters from Bastard. Will these “secrets” cause more drama or will Jax and Candice get their HEA they both deserve. You will have to read to find out...
I'll admit I has reservations going into Jax. I was so in love with Perry's first offering Bastard when the enigmatic Jax Albright was a minor character I wasn't sure what to expect. This was not it. This was so much better than I could have hoped for!
Jax has the family from hell. After trying to force him into what they think he should be, Jax drops out of Uni, is disowned by his family and sets out on his own to build the life he wants. Willing to forgo anything to make his dreams come true, Jax struggles but becomes not only a successful business owner but one of the best men you could hope to meet. His relationship with Brian defines his character more than a history ever could.
Candice was in love with Jax since she was a teenager. After one Sambucca filled evening he leaves her never to be heard from again. That is until the feisty, pink haired beauty literally crashes into him in the street.
As their lives begin to intertwine, both Jax and Candice find it hard to resist the person they each once were. When secrets are revealed and hearts are shattered, Candice and Jax have some decisions to make.
Jax is in an incredibly complex character who, I want nothing more than to give a hug and end the loneliness thrust upon him.
Perry has done a phenomenal job of bringing to light this angsty book filled with all types of love, compassion, loneliness and heartbreak. A brilliant read that I know I'll be rereading again.
I am not sure if it is possible, but I think I love Jax more than Carter! I know, its hard to believe, but Jax just won my heart and I am hooked. He is a big cutie-pie that is rough on the outside but soft and gooey on the inside, but don't tell him I said that! He has a reputation and all. And I don't think I want to meet Candice down a dark alley either. She is an amazing woman that only has eyes for Jax, but do her wrong, and she will squeeze the life out of you. This gal is sassy and can hold her own.
If you have read Bastard, you will know little bits and pieces of Jax and Candice, and I am so glad their story has come to light. The time line for this book is exactly the same as Bastard, so technically you could read Jax first, then go to Bastard, either way would work. It was great hearing small bits of Carter and Indi in this book too.
Jax has come from a family of wealth and social standing, but it didn't get him anywhere. He has had to make some tough decisions and go out on his own. Candice hasn't had it easy either, but at least she has had her mum stand by her through thick or thin. They met through Jax's brother and become best friends not wanting to go any further and wreck the relationship that they have. But one drunken night goes too far, and things change for them in a big way. It will take more than a Peanut and a Puppy to make these two realise what everyone else knew from the beginning. JL Perry did an awesome job with this book. And I would recommend it as a starting point, or to add to this series.

Not your usual bad boy story, Jax is the gut wrenching story of Jaxson Albright. Son of a career politician and his socialite wife who have better things to do than deal with their children.
Candice is a pink haired rebel, daughter to ex model and beauty queen Sophia. They have lived their lives sans a father figure for Candice because when the "sperm donor" thinks that money can negate his responsibility, the girls set about making a great life for themselves anyway.
Jax's and Candice are best friends. They have a solid friendship, built on mutual trust and a disdain for the screwed up family that Jax is part of, but Jax has always felt like he's more a part of Candice's family.
Their friendship changes when Jax must leave to attend university. In the space of a few short hours, their entire friendship is thrown into chaos.
Jodi Perry has captured every gut wrenching emotion in this poignant story of love, betrayal and reconciliation.
When your bad boy protagonist loses his heart to the sweet rebel, what a combination. The interplay between the characters was at times hilarious but always honest and faithful to their character. Their relationships also added to the overall feel of the book, making it a real hit as far as I'm concerned.
Loved every word and have now placed Jodi Perry in my favourite author category.
A fabulous read with a great HEA. Recommended highly to those who are prepared to ride the emotional roller coaster with Jax and Candice.
It has been a while since Bastard, so it was great to get back in that world.
If you have read Bastard, you will have met Jax and Candice, but that gives us nothing on what their story is.
I am struggling to put into words my thoughts on this book. It is one of those books that is not just a book, it is a journey that we are taken on along with the characters.
From the first word to the last, I couldn't put it down, I just needed to know what happened next.
Jax and his Candice's story is not a simple friends to lovers, second chance romance. It is so much.
A ran through the whole gamut of emotions. I can't tell you how many tears I shed as their story unfolded. I wanted to shake some sense into Jax so he could see what was right under his nose. I wanted to slap some sense into the pair of them for their actions at times.
But most of all I wanted them to see who they really were to each other.
I LOVE that it is set in my home town of Sydney. So many books are set in places around the world that I have never been, so it is nice to be able to picture where the story is happening.
I don't know how else to really put into words how much I love this book, other than to to say read it, you won't be disappointed.
Oh my. Friends to lovers to enemies to friends to lovers to enemies to......... Jax and Candice, I swear I wanted to bang their heads together. Two lost souls that are, in my mind, destined to be together, but, after one perfect night, Jax ups and disappears out of Candice's life leaving her bereft. Fast forward 3 years and they find each other again, but can they go back to their friendship after all that has passed? Even though it appears their feelings haven't changed, so much has happened, then when Jax discovers Candice has been keeping things from him, it's suffice to say their friendship will never be the same again. Although Jax maintains that Candice is one of the most stubborn people ever, I have to disagree, that title should totally go to Jax. I was so frustrated with him at times. Written in dual POV, I was on tender hooks wondering what would happen next. Some wonderful supporting characters too. Really enjoyed this story, a wonderful spinoff from Carter and Indiana. I was desperate for their HEA. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
