This book has such a hot cover but it's not erotica about step siblings. I really loved the story and how it played out. Jenny and Ethan already had eyes for each other in school but their parents got married and it had all gotten too awkward. He was a jock and she was weird and they would have made an odd couple. They also were well aware that any relationship other than being step siblings would be frowned upon by their parents and all the people in the small town in Ohio where they lived. So Ethan chose to distance himself from Jenny and then he went away to boarding school. It was years till they saw each other again when Jenny decided to go to NYC for an audition. Not knowing a soul in New York, her stepdad arranged for her to stay in Ethan's place and even procured a key to Ethan's place without permission.
This is a story of unrequited love and second chances. I admire Jenny's strong and sensible character. I love that Ethan could not get over her even after several years. The past unfolds in every chapter of the story and it seemed like peeling history layer by layer. Each day in each other's company uncovered what transpired in the past for both of them. They get to know and like each other in the short time that they live together. This reader can't help but ache for Jenny and Ethan and for all the time wasted when they're so right for each other. But this reader also realizes that everything was worth the wait. What they had in the end could not be more beautiful if events went another way.
I wish I could write like Hazel Kelly, her choice of words and the fluidity of her sentences achieve maximum effect. I often skim through the internal monologue in most books because it gets tedious, but not in this one. I clung to every word and paragraph for fear of missing out on some crucial detail. She captures her characters' feelings and thoughts in a methodical way allowing for a systematic flow from one emotion to the other. I love the witty banter between Jenny and Ethan. Jenny is so smart and she is exactly what Ethan needs in his life. She's already had her degree but never has fallen in love in her life till Ethan. She's always been in love with him so no one else captured her heart. Unlike most books where characters hold out too much therefore bringing on themselves unnecessary grief, the characters in this one tentatively took the bull by the horn and embraced another chance Fate has thrown their way. I'm glad that they did not waste any more time given the chance to be together. I love the HEA and that things fell into place in the end. It showed that the characters have matured and mellowed after seven years. So much heartache has transpired and in the end, love and family sweeps all that away.
I'm not sure what the author wanted to achieve with the sexy cover and the title which I can't complain about really. It does look and sound very appealing. However, there is so more to this book than just the sexy undertones. It's beautifully written and therefore, highly recommended.
This is one of the best books that I have read for some time, the story line was very good, and the love between Jenny and Ethan was there for all to see, I just loved the way they got on with each other, and we got a very good ending, what more can you ask. I am reading more by Hazel Kelly.
This was a great find to stumble across. I really loved the characters Jenny and Ethan and their story of unrequited love. The flashbacks to heir past added another great layer to their relationship and the story. I am so eager to read the rest of the Soulmates series.
Ethan and Jenny had a crush on each other a year before Ethan's dad decided to go marry Jennys mum, that than made it hard for them to be anymore than step siblings. When years pass fate put them back in the same place but away from there parents were things start to heat up. I just loved the way this book includes some character's from the Abbott club. i highly recomend this it is a really great read. thank you Hazel for another amazing book
